What Alan Gelfand did was manage to push airing out of the pool even farther by adding a little extra at the end which came to be known as the "Ollie" or "Pop Ollie" or "Ollie Air".
Then later on Mullen took that and figured out a way to do it on flat ground which is what we know of as the Ollie today.
