Thumbs Down for Poway Skatepark

In an effort to curb vandalism and misbehavior at its skatepark, city officials in Poway, California are looking into a system that would require skaters to register and submit thumb prints in order to enjoy themselves in the public space. What a great way to spend $50,000 worth of taxpayers hard earned cash!
“To our knowledge, no one has this,” Poway Community Services Director Robert Clark said. “If this works, you’ll see a lot of cities jumping on this fast.”
No, it won’t work and we certainly hope no other city is going to bother with treating its skate community like felons. If they do, well guess what? More skaters are going to opt for skating the streets just like it used to be. Mr. Clark needs a good ole’ impeachment hearing real quick. Seriously, who the hell is in charge of the City Council down there?

The Berrics On The Wall Street Journal?

Yes, at crazy as it may sound, The Wall Street Journal has posted a piece on The Battle at the Berrics. The article discusses the contest series and its format (Koston invented’ the game of SKATE?) as well as The Berrics as both a private skatepark and media business. It’s interesting that they seem to question why this is more popular to skate ‘purists’ than the XGames. Our favorite paragraph…
“This aggressive minimalism renders the Battle almost unwatchable to anyone who hasn’t spent time on a skateboard. But it’s addicting to skateboarding purists, who find a contest of smaller tricks more relatable than the skate competitions on television, where grisly falls and jumps as long as 75-feet get much of the attention.”
All we can say is that the world is changing when stories like this are hitting the world’s most recognized financial news source. I wonder how many WSJ readers will be watching the finals this weekend? More interesting than the stock market ups and downs this past few months..?

Aligned with Delkine
Dekline has bolstered its team roster with the recent addition of two well-known and talented skaters, Matt Bennett and Austin Stephens. Things are definitely shaping up for the brand.

It's not officially open, but everyone is offcially jumping the fence and shredding!!!
