Well, it's April 5th now, and I'm now a good 5 months into the United States Army. I am currently at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in AIT (job training) to become a Medical logistics specialist. It's alright. There's some horrible parts about basic, but overall, it was alright in the end. I'm no worse for the wear, learned a lot of cool stuff, and have some great stories to tell. I miss my family and Ashley MADLY, but I've only got a month left till I can return home. I should be home on May 4th if all goes well.

Anyways, I just wanted to get on here and let all you old RR pals of mine know that I didn't blow myself up with those hand grenades..hah. I'm well, and pretty much the same to be honest. 30 days!!! If you are someone off RR I used to talk to or something and want to speak and catch up, feel free to e-mail me (mrock_2000@yahoo.com) with your phone or cell or whatever. I can check my e-mail on my phone, but not e-mails that are too long, so who knows, maybe we can talk.

Alright guys, I'm outta here till May 4th. Hooah!

-Mike

P.S. I must say..I love my uniform! Hate the haircut though..eck..

...and of course...Take it easy!

Hey guys, back again..waiting for my test results. So far I'm averaging at about a 97% in AIT..not bad! Anyways, I take my phase test today, which if I pass, I will be able to leave during the day on the weekends to go wherever off base I'd like. I'll probably just sleep in though, I'm drained. I have shin splints...and they're killing me, especially when we run, but hey..it's all part of the game, I s'pose!

Anyways, thanks a TON for the nice thoughts guys. It means a lot, and it's a little encouraging to hear people still remember my name!
I'm in the Reserves currently, so I'll leave here May 4th to go home for a while..until deployed whenever that may be. I know I'll be deployed sooner or later over the period of my 6 year enlistment, but who knows when. Not only that, I may be deployed to somewhere within the U.S., not necessarily Iraq, but again- who knows. Either way, I'll go wherever I'm sent, do my service, and return home in one piece..that's a promise. I've really excelled at tactical training too, it's a shame I never thought of a career on a SWAT team, haha. I've been one of four squad leaders in my platoon (back at basic training) when clearing buildings, so it was pretty cool.
Rappelling off a 60 ft wall was a blast too, it was freezing cold that morning, but as soon as I let that rope go and began descending- all the cold went away.
Annyyways, I'm gonna get off here guys, I gotta check some other stuff. Take it easy..and I'll see you all soon- promise!

Later...

-Mike

I'm glad to see someone serving their coutry in dangerous times. As soon as I graduate from highschool I'm going to join the Army. I'm also considering the Navy. Well anyway, good luck and God be with you.

OMFG I thought you guys were skaters not corportate whores. Dont you know that joining the army is the biggest waste of youth possible? Is there no one that would agree with me that being a puppet to the corporate controlled government is wrong? Go fight for the divided states of embarassment as eminem would say.

wow did someone above me seriously say what i think he say. LOL have you killed anyone yet. Do you people have no concept of life?

You live in America, right? That's OK, I'll go out there for months at a time and risk my life to keep you free. It's my job...and I'm more than happy to do it. :)

First...."to keep you free" is really relative, and second I don't think joining the army is a mistake. I've had many friends that joined the Canadian Army, one of them got best athlete, best shooter and best overall recruit awards, he's probably gonna join the special forces within 3 years. By the way for those of you underestimating our army, we have absolutly NO equipment whatsoever, but the basic training camp is comparable to your Marines'. The only reason why I'm never gonna join the forces is because you get filed by the government as potentially dangerous.

Well, we're not in danger of being taken over by another country, by no means..but it's a fact- the military maintains the freedom we enjoy every day. I won't argue it with anyone, you know? I'm just going to do my job. The military certainly isn't for everyone. I believed in it, wanted a challenge, and of course- the benefits. I turned out to do fairly decent at it, and I'm not some weirdo now..I'm pretty much the same as before. I just pay more attention to detail than before, I think.

This definently is a changing Army though. When I went through basic, I was the second group to ever be in a new exercise- Convoy live fire exercise. It simulates your convoy being attacked, and, with live ammo, you must react to targets at 50, 75, 150, 200, and 300 meters away. That day it was about 25-35'ish degrees, raining, and muddy. Not very fun to be riding around in the back of a 5 ton in that crap, but afterwards we all laughed about it. That convoy training shows that they want to prepare everyone for the type of attacks that are out there today. It's a good idea, too.

Oh..and I can't wait to tell some of these stories..haha..
