i got this metal fence post from the hardware store and it seems like a good rail. its square and 2" high and thick and 7' long. i need to put legs on it. i don't have any welding equipment but i do have some metal piercing drill bits. can someone give me some advice.

I don't think that will work. Maybe you can try taking it to a local community college or something and have their welding class have a go at it. It'll be free if you do it that way, too.

Actually, im having a similar problem. i have a rail i found on the ground at a state park and was allowd to keep it for free cuz it was slightly bent. well anyway i was trying to make a rail out of it without welding it to metal legs. so my friends and i made 2 triangle supports out of wood for both ends. then we drilled a circle in the top of both triangles and cut them in half to set the rail in. Now i need a way to attach it to the wood. I'm not sure if i can drill a small hole in the pipe to get hte screw into the wood. Any advice wod be helpful.

i hate rails with triangles on the ends, you cant blunt or nose/tail slide it and sumtimes even boardslides get screwed up

Ya thats a good point. Ill prolly just buy a good rail. Building rails without a welder is allmost impossible.
