Hey all
Just wondering if you guys could help me out with a design project im doing at the moment about skateboarding helmets.

If you use a helmet what are your favourite brands/designs?

What do you look for when buying a helmet?

Had any head/facial injuries when skateboarding? What type and where? How did you do it?

If you don't use a helmet why not? (could be anything from image to bad design...)

Any help would be really appreciated
thanks

I have a BULLET helmet.

What do you look for when buying a helmet?
Price, lol.

My board shot out and I fell back and hit my head.

I usually don't use them because they're kinda bulky, but if I'm trying something new and I think I need a helmet I wear it.

when i have to use a helmet, i like the pro-tec with the flexible shell

What do you look for when buying a helmet?
comfort is of the utmost importance

Had any head/facial injuries when skateboarding? What type and where? How did you do it?
near-concussion on a slam to the back of the head. went to the hospital for it

If you don't use a helmet why not?
cumbersome, uncomfrotable, stupid-looking

I wear a Protech Brian Patch model. I've broken teeth and busted my chin open several times. Those injuries couldn't be helped by wearing a helmet but I have hit my head real good alot of times where I'd have been screwed was it not for a helmet. When skating pools and vert bowls I always wear a helmet. I don't want to bust my melon open.

I have a Pro Tech its Actualy a water sports model but its shaped like the skate helmets, I like it better because it has a soft foam lining instead of the styrofoam, so I'm deffinately looking for comfort, as far as facial injuries while wearing a helmet I've bruised up my cheak pretty bad before, but can't do anything about that.

Vetilation, and make sure you pad the strap so it's comfy. What would be really cool is if you put a fan on it, but make sure you don't do it half assed so that it lasts. I was airosfting and this dude cut a hole in the top of his pb mask and had a little computer fan powered by a 9volt battery. Make it look cool too, like camoflauge it (us woodland or arctic, digital looks ugly though). Those silver reflective ones look really gay, stay away from those, and glossy ones get scratched up quickly.

i dont wear a helmet mostly because they get in the way. i tried wering one one time and it kept falling off and it was too hott.

maybe try making a thin but strong and comfortable helmet with a new way to stay on. make one that is very well ventilated as well

Haven't Ever worn a good one

What do you look for when buying a helmet?
A helmet that is actually comfortable and not too chunky feeling.

I hit the back of my head just skatin semi-fast on my street. The trucks randomly gave way and almost went sideways.

They are just irritating and get in the way, and look dumb. BUT I would ride a helmet with Viking Horns possibly.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this but put some nice speakers in the sides and a little place to mount an Mp3 player. Don't include the Mp3 player with the helmet, let people buy it separately, some people might not want the Mp3 player for the extra cost, but I think it would kick ass, same with the viking horns, or devil horns. I just thought of this, but how about a propane torch on each side like rocket boosters? Hehe, just kidding, but that would kick ass, too dangerous though, lol run into someone and catch em on fire, or lean against a ramp.

heres a great piece o' knowledge that all of u should be aware of.

Helmets are lifesavers. Im lucky that I came out alright after all my head slams... woulda worked out hella better if i had worn helmets. Theyre not that fashionable though.

I own a helment but I have no idea where it is (hardly ever use it). Even though I don't wear one often I have paid the price once. I was tailsliding my favorite handrail. Proly done it a 100 times then one time I hit the rail to early bam head first right into the the stairs. 3 hours, 4 stiches and a bitching mom. Now if im doing anything at the park or on sets I try to bring my helment. It will save you hospital time.

Or maybe you just notice it more when you are wearing a helmet, or it boosts your confidence so you try more stuff. Just cause the shit hasn't hit the fan yet doesn't mean it won't, I'm not any helmet nazi but that was kind of a stupid post..
