Screw all of that overpriced skate wax @#$! and buy paraffin wax. They carry it at your local supermarket for sure. It's used for canning.
Oh yeah, some stuff just doesn't slide or grind well. If it has a sandy sort of feel to it, then it's gonna suck.

It has to be pretty smooth to start out with. You can't take a jagged ledge, wax it up, and get pissed cuz it won't slide. I buy gulf wax... its 2 bucks for 4 1x3x5 pieces.

Me and my friends jsut melt candle wax on it...we can coat an entire curb pretty quick and candle wax seems to stay for a while...I recommend the scented candles, that way your deck will smell pretty...

Nail it to the curb? Would you have to buy those big-ass cement bolts, drill holes, then pound them in there?

First of all, you dont even have to wax it too much, as in the summer, the wax will melt, and you'll get caught in it. The thing you're not doing is, after you apply the wax, you have to take your board and use the trucks to grind on it and make it smooth. All you have to do is pretty much do is rub your trucks, like doing a 50-50 with your hands on the curb, and just keep sliding it back and forth.

it's better to use either the tail or nose... put pressure on it and rub the wax should start to turn black.. so many skaters are inept waxers it's insane...circular motions... waxing a curb is like making love to a beautiful woman

Eh, you shouldn't have to wax any curb. Painted parking curbs shouldn't need wax at all. If they aren't painted you're pretty much screwed because the whole reason the wax works on the painted curbs is because it creates a solid layer of smooth surface, whereas most street curbs are sandy and porous.
Anyway, usually what I do is just wax my nose and tail and slappy nose/tail slide for days. That works pretty well, just don't fall. :P

the key to waxing is patience and repetition
It took us three or four months, but we got this one little ledge that was 100% ungrindable or slidable to be perfect
and by little, i mean eight feet long, a foot high, and grindable on both sides
It was only after much waxing, grinding and sliding it in, re-waxing and grinding more that we got it to work
It probably took twenty bars of gulf wax, too

England doesn't have painted curbs... Yet there about a million curbs that grind and slide perfect. So that theroys a bit pants really.

Grinding curbs is no fun, and sliding is almost impossible. Better off building some crazy grind box and posting a pic in the creativity thread! :-41:

I couldn't get any street curb out here to slide even if I waxed the crap out of it. Maybe it's just the cheap California way. Everything is all sandy.

Never been, couldn't comment. But they probably are diffrent. Another note... People dont realise how well wood can grind, not all wood, but find a nice thick hardwood bench and it will grind and slide perfect pretty much right away.

you need to wear a curb in once you wax it. that way it is smooth for to slide easily

Have you tried putting new batteries in?

Head on down to the local home improvement store and pick up a RUB BRICK
Snag a bottle of water and soak the concrete make sure its soaked concrete is porous it will turn color... Use the rub brick and rub the concrete smooth when the stone gets clogged rinse it with water and keep going until you get it pretty good...... After a while the curb will get pretty pasty with a morter like paste... Wipe the curb clean and smooth with your hand and let it dry...
Don't rinse the curb off after you smooth it out the paste it fills in the pores of the concrete... If you do your results won't be as good...
Probably won't even need wax when your done.... This is fast It can be done in no time with a rub brick....http://www.tiletool.net/wpe2F.jpg
