View Full Version : Wood in Heat

Alright it has been getting rather warm in Indy lately(85 degrees right now), but that doesn't stop me from skating, but I have found a problem. It seems when I skate in the heat my board gets extremely warm and feels rather soft. It is one of those Habitat boards with hemp in the layers if that matters. I was wondering if my problem is real or if its somethin weird in my head.

haha, hemp in boards? that might be why. but i dont think that that heat would normally do anything. i mean, people skate in california all the time and it gets hot there.

I think it might be the ground that is getting softer, not the wood. These past few weeks have been blazingly hot over here in Cali, but I haven't experienced any of those problems as of yet. Maybe it is because when it is so hot like it is here, I'm so exhausted that I don't notice stuff like that.

It is getting around 85 where I live and I don't notice anything going wrong with my board. Is is really humid? Humidity can act like rain and put moisture into your board...that might be the problem.

It may be that your board is old, or that you're so hot and exhausted your legs are weaker, causing the board to feel weaker.

Yea I think it might be all in my head. It doesn't change anything, I still pop and do all my tricks the same, but the feeling on the board is somewhat uncomfortable.

Hemp is a very useful plant to grow. Every single part of it can be used for something constructive, from paper to clothing.
And no, you wont get stonned from smoking it. It contains next to no THC, meaning you are only going to get a headache from smoking HUGE amounts, not get "high".

You can also make bread out of hemp.

I skate with Habitat boards all the time. Ive never really noticed any problems in the heat... mabey its cuz your feet are sweaty and that make the sols of your shoes feel weird,
also, i never knew there was hemp in there boards... i never noticed, Habitats always last pritty long and i never thought of hemp as a hard wood :)
but i did have 1 board a while back that had 1 think layer that was yellow in the middle it was as thick as like 4+ normaly layers it went 2 normal (woold color) 1 think (yellowish) 2 normal again (wood color) that board lasted a hella long time, the 1 think layer is a good idea

Only the Hemp-ply decks have the hemp. It's a newer model.

Well my shoes are pretty wrecked ad the sole is worn through in some places. Would that be a possible reason?
