can somebody tell me the difference between a fisheye lens and a wide-angle lens? i dont need to know the difference in how the actual glass is shaped, just the difference of how the picture looks after you film.

Times like these I wish I paid more attention in Photography class.
From what I remember, Fisheye has more of a circular look to the picture. While a wide-angle effect is able to capture more in the picture.
Here are some examples.
Wide-angle:

Fisheye:

if i'm correct, fisheye is just an exaggerated wide angle
giving a greater degree of coverage(what you'd be interested in for getting closer to the person skating) and more barrel distortion(the effect that makes straight lines bow at the edges)

If I'm not mistaken, Fisheyes are better for filming lines and moving subjects. And aren't wide-angles and death lenses the same? If so, that would be used for stationary stuff(If you have a hammer skater on your hands).

A fish eye bends picture to let you see more. That is why when you watch fisheye shots it looks bended. A widangle is more like just a bigger lens.

Well that's wrong.
Many kids/people/whatever that are new to filming make this mistake. "I'm gonna get me a wide angle to film lines and shit." I'm not saying getting a wide angle lens is a bad thing, it has it's uses like long lens shots when your restricted by space, but a Fisheye will give you that sweet barreling distortion that makes the trick look bigger and better. The fisheye is a must for filming lines, and making those rails look long. If you beg to differ, click here. (http://www.bugeyedigital.com/moreinfo/ray-dcrfe180pro-03-yes.jpg)
Fisheye = Barreling.
Wide angle = no barreling. well ok, cass is right. Slight barreling on an insignificant level.

a fisheye is a lens that yeilds 170 degrees to 180 degrees, im pretty sure its 170, it has alot of barrel distortion,
a wideangle is anything less then 180 degrees, until 90 which would be just you standard lens, the wideangle does have barrel distortion as does all lenses do, they have a a very slight barrel "effect" to them
