I don't longboard, I've ridden one and I thought it was pretty fun, but I don't think that I will ever get into it.

I got into longboarding recently. I've got a stock sector 9 hawaiian. it awsome. the only thing I did was loosen the trucks and put some ABEC 5 bearings I got from my cousin. I forget what kind they are. any suggestions on new parts to put on? I'll be carving and cruising.

I suggest to get some new trucks. For jsut carving and cruising I woudl get Originals or Seismics. www.originalskateboards.com Turn REALLY well. Also pick up some 3dm Avalons. http://seismicskate.com/ I think thats where the wheels are anyway. This will be a SUPER turny SUPER grippy setup. You dont understand how grippy and turny. Get the Original S8's and the wheels in 74a for great grip. Have fun.
Or if you want a cheaper option get some Randal R-II 150mm and some ABEC 11 Flashbacks
www.solidskate.com sells both.

I'm getting a stock Land Yachtz Cruiser. Here's what I plan to do to the poor girl:
Get Randall II's or some Seismics.
Abec 11 Flashbacks.
Rock 'n' Rons.
Some other stuff, maybe.

Well...if you are are really into longboarding like I am you don't focus on tricks really but more on carving/cruising/downhill/slalom(not really longboarding but same idea) which is not possible on a shortboard. Even though it is fun to take some boards to the park every once in a while.

Does anyone know anything about making a snowboard into a longboard. I'd imagine you would just drill some holes for the trucks but i could be wrong.

basically, yeah. although you can't have too long of a board cuz of the flexiness of the snowboard itself. depending on how much you weigh, i prolly wouldn't go over 38 to 40"

38 to 40 inch total length...that'll leave about 30-32" wheelbase
sk8sweet, which landy are you getting?

the stout or bamboo stout, do you know what differences the bamboo makes?
bucksaw87
07-28-2007, 04:21 PM
bamboo is like snappier than baltic birch (baltic birch is the normal wood for a longboard), as well as a little bit lighter. the advantage of having it "snappier" is so that you can carve deeper and it theoretically will put energy out when you're coming out of a carve, so you can (theoretically) pump better.
kinda the same theory as those habitat bamboo boards...lighter, snappier (more pop in shortboards i guess)...plus it's basically a weed so it grows like 3 times faster than every other wood, so it's more "environmentally friendly" (but please don't believe that environmental shit...the manufacturing methods put out a LOT more pollution and damage the environment a LOT more than you'd save by buying bamboo)

okay, that makes sense, i was thinkin that it would be snappy or flexy or wutever, but wouldnt there be downsides as well, cuz why would anyone buy the regular model (its made out of maple) then; considering that similar models of each only have a 2 dollar price difference...thanks for your help

well some people don't like a lot of flex...that's where the maple deck comes in. i personally like a stiff board, but i know a lot of people who like REALLY flexy boards. i know a guy who weighs over 200 and has a loaded vanguard built for someone half his weight cuz he likes the flex so much.

oh okay, i feel yah, i guess i could just try out the bamboo one since skateboards are stiff, so it would be a change, and if i didnt like it then ah well not a big deal cuz id still have the trucks wheels and bearings that come with it and i could sell the deck and get a regular wood one...i emailed the guy at landyachtz and asked him which one he would suggest for my area since he lives around here so he'll probly help too
