Advice on teh Approach

Okay, as you may already know Im new to skateboarding and really wanna try this out. Heck I didnt even buy a board yet. But that unfolds my asking for help. Okay you see my dad doesnt like me to try "extreme sports" ie: skateboarding and scooters...Though its funny because he allows me to get a bike and/or skates. So now Im asking what you guys think is the best way to approach my dad on letting get one =/. Thanx

skateboarding doesnt even have to be extreme. youre not flying down 20 stair handrails right when you start. its fun too. you meet friends and all that. and its good exercise.

when you start, youre just going to be riding. not really even learning tricks right away.

and ps - scootering is not extreme.

Tell him that your using skating to express yourself, meet new friends, improve your fitness and balance and its just plain fun. If he says no to that, hes crazy, maybe even as crazy as me:D.

Tell him you want to try something new. Tell that it will keep you doing something else besides getting in trouble. Skateboarding makes me feel relaxed and it takes my mind off alot of sressful things while I'm doing it, try and tell him that. Welcome to RR and and hopefully you can convince your dad to let you skate, I think you will really enjoy it.

Explain to him that bikes are way more dangerous. A big flying hunk of metal hitting you in the back of the head, or a smaller piece of wood, that if you get head height you're either, stupidly good at street, or stupidly bad at vert :-1:

You just have to explain how safe it actually is, show him videos and stuff, most really bad stacks only involve cuts and bruises, until you try harder stuff.

Armour that weights about half your body weight, then a sword that weights a fair whack aswell. Yeah, you'd look cool, and you could beat off anyone you disliked. But you couldn't get off the ground.

Statistically speaking, skateboarding is one of the least dangerous sports you can do. I almost didn't start skating because I'm a girl and knew I'd get put down for it, but now I live for it. It's the best sport you could ever do because it's challenging and at the same time, so damn fun. When you've been practising a trick for months, and you finally pull it off, you get the best sense of pride.

Your father is a bit of a fruit loop if he can't see that in any sport, you can and probably will be injured. Skateboarding is no exception, but even the statistics say that you're more likely to get seriously injured while you're playing GOLF!

Thats strange, Im pretty sure people get more injured plaing basketball than skateboarding. Me and my friends never get hurt. Well one got his front teeth knocked ou when he got blocked. Other than that me and my friend has alot of scrapes and bruises and my freinnd broke his arm...

Read my post, is it truly that hard to understand. I know it isn't as I am pretty good at speaking, typing and writing in my language. What I know from my experience, if you compare it to other sports that involve padding, Hockey etc people think you should wear pads. Bum Dass.

I have the weirdest dad in the world.

Alright So I go to his room cruising and what not, prepzing a full length speech why I should have a board. So I ask "Dad, once I get my paycheck can I buy a board?" He peaks over his shoulder to my mom and she dosent say a thing and peers back to me and then Says "Okay go ahead" so Im about to go on ahead start my speech and then it hit me he just said yea. So Im about to leave then he says "in one condition....

.....You cant ride on the street.."

So now on Sat Im going out to by my first board can you guys give me any ideas on what to look for?

heck thats a good start well will they allow you to buy stuff on internet if so get a blank http://www.blankdecks.com

it depends what you like..if you like rails, funboxes, and flatland tricks alot get a board of a width of 8" or smaller. If you want to skate quaterpipes and half pipes and stuff..buy a board with a width of 8" or bigger....you want trucks with a width that comes withing a 1/4" to your fore..i.e. you have a board that has a width of 7.5...you want trucks that come within 7.25-7.75. For street trucks get lows..for vert get high. For wheels..if you like street get wheels with a diameter of 50-55mm wheels with a hardness of 95-100a..for vert get wheels with a diameter of 55-65 with a hardness of 97-100a..and for bearing I would suggest red bones. they are really cheap and are probably as good as some very expensive ones.....hope this helped you!
