Why we Love Skating

Yes, I haven't seen this thread in a while. I wanted to post why I love skating and hope you all will do the same, since skating is diffrent to everyone.

I love skateboarding because it makes me look forward to things that normally I wouldn't look forward too, like the cottage trip that I'm going too in august, I love skating there.

Also, 90 percent of the time I skate by myself so when I finally skate with friends I love showing off my tricks. All those "shitty" nights where I had nothing to do but skate, I just skated..It helped me out through stuff and now I can take what I learned and impress people with it. Its amazing.

And how every year when the summer comes I'm so happy to be able to skate outside again, as the years go on and on I get more and more anxious to skate when the summer comes. Its awesome.

Now, why do you all love skating?

i get crap from my friends all the time about how i could be really good if i actually tried other things besides what i normally do, and people have even said they hate me because of my "smooth style."

but i just keep doing what i do and i barely try new stuff, and i dont care.

i see it as a stress reliever. if i have a bad day, i just grab my board and skate a few hours. i like to see my skating ability improve gradually and look back and say "remember when we couldn't ollie?".

For the thrill.
skating has lots of adrenaline pumpers.eg. Doing your first set beyond a 4, getting chases by security guards, breaking in to places to skate. its all 1 big adrenaline rush.
and its also fun. its fun to just cruise around flipping 2 sets real smooth. or ollieng 4s in a line youve started to do. its all just fun.

I started just to be different and then I liked it soo much I stopped all the other things in life and it gives me somthing to do.

I do it because it doesn't require that I meet social standards or make freinds. I can just do it happily by myself. I'm not good at socializing, so things that I can do by myself are always fun.

I like it for the rush you get when you land somthing big for the first time and also all the greate times i have skating with my mates.

There are a few reasons I love skating. Like others mentioned, I do it for the fun and the thrill. It's like no other. Close to biking and inlining, except you're not holding it in anyway. But the other reason I love it is because, in skating, there is no prejudice or racism. You could be a nerd, a gangster, a punk, whatever, if you go to a park and rip it, it doesn't matter to anyone; you just skate together and have fun. And that's what it's all about.

WOW so many good reasons, Stress relief as was already mentioned, the awsome feeling of landing a new trick or getting ooos and ahhs from people, and also the way I see the world has been changed since I started skating, its awsome.

my best friend is someone i met at the park, and im so grateful i found this sport because without it, life would SUCK. i am not your average jock who can play football and basketball with style. and man, call this stupid or whatever, but i Love picking up stares when im rolling through downtown with like 10 other guys just...just Tearing through there and then you all see a set and everyone does there trick off it. just yesterday i found an office complex with a nice 6 and some fat ass sec. gaurd came out and we ran and he couldnt catch us...i dont even know if he called the cops we were out of there so fast. but annnnyways, its a whole different style of life. with football or something its a team sport, and the rules are set. with skateboarding, you can just do whatever you want, and it works.....its the best part about it.

I like skating because it's just another hobby to get into. I'm probably differnt than a lot of you, not really a "skater", just started cruising around a couple months ago cause I was bored when home from college (probably a late start to most of you). Me and my buddy started riding his brothers bored one afternoon and we got hooked. I'm not really the typical athletic type but I found it was a really fun way to exercise and hang out with my friends. I suck at any kind of tricks so far, but I really don't care if I ever get good, I love just going out with my friends and screwing around, going down hills, falling, and trying to ollie.

Well i love it because its fun. Its also great that you can do it anywhere. Im also a HUGE mountainbiker but i dont get to do that much because you have to go to some kinda special trail. Not to be a ***** but i also see it as a great way to attract girls. :-2:

I skate by myslef a lot. I used to think that skaters thought all highly of themselves, but I was being an ass. I don't go to the local park a lot, though. But anyways, I skate for excersise and for fun.

i like skating because of the feeling it gives you when you land that one trick youve been trying for months, the feeling you get when you go one step further, and literally! the feeling that when you are skating you dont really care if people think you are gay.you just do what you want, and do it good!

See alot of the time when i skate i really hate it, not landing tricks bailing, it stresses you out but the buzz you get when you land overcomes it all.

I also love the feeling of flying down a huge, smooth hill. Its a great stress reliever.

I love skating...

because you are so free, on your board, this sport has no rules. No limits. No teammates to contribute to. The only satisfaction you are giving away is the satisfaction you receive. I love the feeling of being propelled yet still being immobilized, standing on top of the board. It's just so fun to ride, make your board do flips possibly a grind thrown in the mix, and yet remain on top of the board. I love controlling the skateboard, and my movement not being hindered. The skateboard only enhances your interaction with the outside world (obstcales), approching a pinic table olliing on to it, and b/s 180 off it, and continue, leaving it in the dust. You don't have to own up to the expectations of others. Idk, I am addicted to skating. It's so enjoyable you don't have to waste the amount of energy playing other "competitive" sports. It's so individual and skateboarding competitions are wonderful, it's a great display of what everyone is capable of. Complete strangers sharing their abilities with each other.

I love how you can perform and it's not the norm.

What the F*&K I don't love, is how my ankle (and toe of the other foot) are still f***e* up from skating... and I can't skate currently... GOD I JUST WANT TO SKATE!!!!!

The feel of adrenaline, and thrill. I love it, I love it when I find something and I think I can't do it but I try it anyways. I fall, I get back up and try it again reassuring myself some. I love how you have to keep your balance and shit too. It's a challenge to keep riding a board compared to a bike. The tricks are fun as hell too, shows a bit of cordination. There is no limit to what you do, what you can do. You don't stop yourself because of "oh I can't do this" or "this is impossible!" You don't do that usually. You can push yourself to the limits and possible master something. It's a great way to socialize with people, to meet new friends and such. Skating with your friends is a lot of fun, because they'll encourage you and keep you going and trying.
