You go from a "beginner" to an "intermediate" once you have a pretty decent bag of tricks that you are fairly consistent with, and your own style has started to develop.

id say i was a beginer until today,
today i landed 4 varial kickflipsin a row, and a few kickflips and shov -its which i can never usually land
also the varial kickflips i did today were the first i had done not on grass,
we even made a kicker and i went up it and varial kickfliped that-
i was so happy

mmmkay, i can manule, ollie bout two feet, shuv it, pop shuv it, kickflips come and go, varials are relatively easy, and i can do all these tricks in fakie.
guess im still a begginer.

If you ask me I'd say you leave the realm of beginnerhood as soon as you develop a sense of comfort with the board.

I can ollie, nollie shuv it, pop shuv it, fakie big spin, f/s b/s 180, fakie 360, fakie f/s flip, varilflip, kickflip, double kickflip, nollie pressure flip, heelflip, b/s flip, boneless, this oldskool trick i call a "roll up" and manuals like a mother ****er, switch ollie. Basically throw a sex change on all of those if I'm lucky. I am working on tre flips and almost got them down, SOOOOO close.
What other tricks should I learn... Who here can casper flip? My friend Josh can do them and I don't see how he does them..

falloffboy101

i can casper flip. i turned intermediate about a year or two ago when i started getting kickflips pretty consistently. my friends say i have a nice style...:D

- kickflip (fakie and sexchange)
- heelflip (fakie and throw in a body varial for luck, also managed a stationary switch one once)
- varial kickflips (fakie too)
- bigspins (fakie too, and nollie if i REALLY try)
- bs flips (fakie too)
- fs flips (only fakie)
- fs heels (only fakie)
- boneless (180, 360)
- indy, nosegrab, tailgrab, (very bad melons) mute and one very fumbled crossbone

well id say its easy to tell when someones a beginner. there isnt really a list of things that you look for to tell, its like.. if you see someone and just go to yourself "...beginner" then yeah.

but usually, its when they cant really do much, they usually have beat up old stuff with razortail and all that, unless they just got a new thing.. yeah. i guess once you start developing a style and have a few tricks down good and people would be like "theyre a beginner"... yeah

also, if someone sees you as that whole stupid "poseur" thing, youre probably a beginner because it usually means you look like the person who buys the typical popular skate stuff.. aka maybe globe or etnies, flip, tensors.... whatever.

Im not really shore what i am. i have a big enough bag of tricks including some quite hard ones (fakie inward heelflip, switch heelflip etc) but im not consistent and i also am crap gaps that drop and cover a distance. i can do just flat ones or straight down but not both.

lets not get into that... there would be way too big of a post for the more advanced skaters.... (only one switch heel? that sucks!!!) im guessing you've been skating 2-2.5 years?

Festibu Amidaq
07-26-2005, 11:40 PM
so ive asked this before but no one wants to answer- whats a pressure flip?

i donno if im a beginger i havent skated long but i can
ollie
fakie ollie
shove-it
pop shove it (sometimes)
kickflip (sometimes)
varial kickflip (fairly consistant, id say its my best trick)
power slide
180 bs/fs (inconsistant)
lipslide (kinda)

You are an advanced skater.

Blind Sheppard

Your a beginner until you have the confidence to skate well infront of people and by well i mean able to push around, do ollies well and not look sloppy.

Enjoi Flatland

Lets see here...

Fakie 360 shove it
Pop Shove it
180 FS and BS
Nose manual about 3 sidewalk blocks
Manual about 12
1 1/2 foot high ollie
1 foot high switch
1/2 foot nollie
Boneless
No Comply
Fingerflip

What do you think of me?

You are no longer a beginner once you are comfortable with the board and stop saying things like "Wow, I can do this trick and I'm only a beginner".

07-27-2005, 12:26 AM
I still consider my self a beginner...My landings need to be more consistant, they're pretty good sometimes but they could always use a little work.

falloffboy101
07-27-2005, 09:21 AM
heres some of my stuff...

ollie
f/s & b/s (only goofy and fakie)
kickflip (almost in fakie)
heelflip (lost in florida, starting to get them back)
shuvit (pop, f/s as well, almost 360. all of them< in fakie)
varial flip (very inconsitent)
boneless (180, almost 360)
f/s 180 no comply (sometimes)
fakie bigspin (sometimes)
50-50 (b/s and f/s)
noseslide (b/s and f/s)
boardslide (pretty sketchy, b/s and f/s)

thats all i can think of right now.

Stop listing all of your tricks. It's pretty much bragging.

If you do any of these you are probably still a "beginner"

-push Mongo
-mob flips
-can't ollie up a curb
-set your board on the box/rail/ledge, run, jump on it, land it, and say you 50-50'd it.
-throw your board 8 feet infront of you whever you try something new (eg. stairs, boarslides, ledges etc...)

NitrousX

I think you are a good skater when you can do these moving and fakie...

- ollie
- kickflip
- heelflip
- fs 180
- bs 180
- fs flip
- bs flip
- 180 and 360 pop shuv it
- 180 and 360 shuv it
- ollie 5 steps

If you can do these you're more than an itermediate. When you feel comfortable on your board and pushing and ollieing are second nature then you are leaving beginnerhood. I'd say once you do a kickflip down a 3 you are around intermediate. But I probably wont be satisfied until I can do these.

What the hell are " mob flips "?

dsc6072

When you have an underdeveloped flick, the board does not level out in the air. This is called a mob flip.

Id say your not a begginer when you declare to yourself "Im not a begginer anymore"
I swear that helps, Ive told little kids that before and now they are landing their tricks more consestantly.

i dont like being infront of big crowds anyway. unless i know them all.

just_skate_
07-28-2005, 04:14 PM
It's a fact that you will land more and bigger tricks infront of big crowns like in competitions. It's something about your body getting so pumped with adrenaline that you muscles just react and do the trick without you even thinking.

baker_etnies
07-28-2005, 04:17 PM
never really ahppnes to me. i just do it and what happens happens. if i dont land it i get up and try untill i do.

yea thats very true,
it like when i skate alone i cant really even cunjure (spelling?) up the guts to do even a shoveit, but even when im with a few people my "skill" increases expodencially,
like i have no fear of landing on the board or even really commiting to new tricks like i had never even atempted a fs shoveit bs body varial but i did one after like 3 or 4 tries which is insane for me

for me it doesnt matter if im skating alone (most of the time i am) or if im skating with someone else. out of the dozen tricks i know how to do. varial kickflips and kickflips are the only ones i have trouble landing. everything else is pretty consistent.
