hey dax, welcome to RR.

skate shoes do help, as they have more ankle support than trainers, but most are really expensive to buy.

as with boards, that cheap on you bought should be fine, you should just cruise around, getting used to the board. if you think skateboarding is for you, then buy a new one, from your local skate store, or buy a complete setup off the internet (a cheap, well-made one should cost around £100/$100).

Go to a local shoe shop and pick you up some vans to skate in.

Skate shoes will also stand up to more punishment than regular trainers.
