If you have just a plain video camera, you are going to need a video capture card that hooks up to your PC so that you can capture the film. If it is a digital video camera, you should just be able to hook the camera up to the computer through your USB or Firewire port.

Exactly...
A capture card has an input for your camera/VCR. Once you have a capture card you're basicly "taping" whatever is coming through your VCR/TV. So you can record your tape ontop your computer or even TV shows.....
Capture cards sell for about $70-100 bucks Canadian. I have an ATI TV Wonder capture card, that's how I got my film on the internet.
If you want to get still shots of sections of video (like a picture) then you need to use video editing software like Adobe Premiere. You can play the video and stop it a a certain spot, then go Export, Frame and save the picture.
Then you can make a picture sequence and put them on the net if you want.

Same as your self i have no clue what a firewire port(whatever) is
but a USB(Universal Serial Bus) Port is a little rectange shaped port at the back(or sometimes front)of your computer. It has a plastic nib on the top of the inside. It is used for Laser Printers,PC Cameras etc. Most computers have one but some ones dont. However you can install one in your local P.C shop(I did it)

i think (no dout sum1 will correct me if im rong) a fireport is a wire that hooks up the digital camera/video recorder with ure computer so that you can view ure sk8(or whteva u have dun) on a computer.. but ifu want 2 edit it then u will need a good editing like videowave or adobe premeir

iskatebad, if your camera takes the actual VHS tapes, if im correct i THINK you can hook up a vcr to your computer and put your footage on it, but Im not sure so you may wanna ask somebody who knows a little more.
