i just bought a highly rated old school Z-FLEX complete, the trucks and the wheels are AWESOME! but the paint is scratching right off, right when i pulled it out of the box i did a kick turn and the back just barely knicked the cement and scratched a little off. if the paint scratches off is the board still good? is there anything i can do to stop the paint from scratching off? did i waste $$$115???

If you bought it to skate it and not just as a collectable don't worry about it. The only way not to scratch it is hang it on the wall or use a tailblock. Boards are going to get scratched if you ride 'em.

it scratched really easily though. is the paint scratching or the board? is a tailblock the thing used to stop easily?

When you drag your tail on the ground the board and paint will get scratched. Tailblocks are an old school item designed to save your tale, not designed as a brake. It's a block that bolts on the bottom of the tail for protection.

Loosing paint won't affect performance at all, but if you want it to stay looking new your gonna have to protect the tail. Most kids these days don't use tailblocks, except the young old schooler kids I've met here all use 'em on their vintage boards.

my dad brought up a homemade tailblock idea. just a 1 inch piece of wood attached to the tail. what are REAL tailblocks made of?

Tailblocks are wood or acrylic (tough plastic). Just cut a piece of wood the shape of the tail. Most wooden ones are 3/4" thick. You want to countersink the wholes for the bolts so they don't drag on the ground though.
