Well I finally went down to our local city built skate park...mainly this is a street course built on an old tennis court with rails, fun box, 2 step grind box, pyramid with double rails, a mini-spine and 2 12' wide 5' high quarter pipes... Keep in mind I am just getting back into skating after a 11-12 year layoff and was never much of a street skater. I was all about pools and half pipes, ditch ramps, awhile back I had the pleasure to skate a wicked bowl and didn't get hurt at all really...but today it was a different story.
Damn I got a huge bruised and swollen palm from bailing on an ollie off the paramid, seperate occasion I took a bunch off skin off my knee and bruised that up too, hung my trucks up on a ollie on the grind box and slide on my back about 5' this one time. After one particular fall trying to do a move I just layed there and debated if I wanted to get back into this game again at 37 years of age!! But I prevailed and kept skating for a few more hours and was nailing some nice old school power grinds on the quarter pipe, a VERY small frontside air that I landed sketchy! Even was getting the ollie back some.
Anyhow, since I can be there in the afternoons when alot of the younger guys are in school I will be practicing most of my spare time. I am getting pads for my knees though..I do not care what I look like or how uncool some think it is. Man, I have a good job and bills to pay!!
Anyhow, as I sit here and type I am completely sore from my day. Swollen palm, legs feel like rubber and my back is wanting to hunch over like I am decrepit. What is great is I will be at it again on Saturday beating myself up more.....maybe I should leave the ollies alone for awhile. :-9:
Thanks for the space to rant,
Leo

That sounds alot like my local park... Is it called Brookes park?

Getting hurt sucks, the worst thing is hitting your head though. Once you do it the shock like spreads through out your skull.

Glad to hear you got back in the game. After a while the pain will go away and you wont be getting broke off every time you go skate. Sounds like you had a ripping good time though, and thats whats all about in the end anyways.

Well this morning I really felt my age!!!! Holy crap I ache! But screw that...I am back into this again and not backing out anytime soon unless I get a serious injury....yeh "Dom....X" I had a great time and the smile that came to my face when doing grinds was well worth it man. Give it a few months and I should be up to a decent level so that I am not all over the damn place. The park is in Reading, PA a mile or so from my house.
I will be picking up a different setup from "Old School skaters.net" in the next few weeks...I am not entirely use to a less than 8" wide board that's common nowdays it seems.

I usually skate about 5 days a week or so and by the weekend I am pretty rough. Knees hurt, legs are tight, back is stiff, but after some stretching, and day or two off, I am good to go. Its a bitch getting old, but with a little R&R between sessions, you can stave off the pain. Plus a couple of barley pops in the evening helps eleviate the pain too.

:-5:

Let me know what you need and I will get you hooked up. If there is something you need that isnt listed in the store, I can get it for you.

Good job boogieman, it's the kind of pain that feels good. Nothing serious, just your body telling you it was a good work out. Keep it up bro. I might suggest like an 8.5" board, adds a little stability.

sound nicer than my park in alaska, called dirty ramps and broken rail park where the state is too wack to put a new concrete park in for us or a indoor park skate park. but hey at least you get time to spend at the park alone
