speed+ollie high. going faster you gap out farther, meaning the rail height you have to clear is actually less because of the slant of the rail. and just practicing over time your ollie gets higher and some just pop better than other peoples ollies. you think thats crazy what about that 14 stair rail that greco switch flips over in baker, reynolds bs flips over it, jeff lenoce nollie bs 180s over it. now that shits crazy. the faster you go the less ollie height you actually need to clear it. or something else crazy is cory duffle in foundation-"thats life" he actually goes straight at a 10 stair rail and ollies over the top of the rail into 5050. now for that gaping out isn't going to help you that much, thats just plain ollie ****ing high.

sort of. i'm saying that for ollieing over handrails that the faster you go the farther you clear, if you gap out far then you don't have to ollie as high because the handrail slopes down. here look at this picture http://www.skateboarding.com/skate/gohuge/0,23444,499624-79-0,00.html?keywords=heath&surfer=&role=&id_list=835547%2D79+627727%2D79+574033%2D79+571218 %2D79+499624%2D79+353516%2D79+302384%2D79+294928%2 D79+288309%2D79+288305%2D79+138711%2D79+138642%2D7 9+137959%2D79+137478%2D79 this is a grind but its the same principals as doing tricks over the rail. see how he gaps out onto the rail? he doesn't actually ollie (kickflip in this case) as high as the rail is but he gaps out so that he doesn't have to. notice where he lands on the the rail and look at how high that is off of the top of the stairs, not waist high is it?
