hey i kinda got a problem... i was counting on making a wooden rail and then putting sheet metal around it so that it grinds better and doesnt splinter. and my friend told me that sheet metal is like grinding on tinfoil... does sheet metal crincle up when you try and grind on it??? i dont think it will but i dont wanna waist my time making a rail that wont work. i dont think it will, im gonas try and get some good stuff but i dont know whats gona happen when i slam down on it into a 50-50 or something

i think if you double up the sheet matal it wont be a problem
or you could make a small test section and beat the crap out of it to see if it will hold up it proly wont crinkle but it might dent if you use one piece sounds ilike a good idea though

yeah i know that it might dent a lil. but if its not solid steel then it willl dent a lil bit. oh well i should try doubling the sheet metal

That's a good Idea. We were gonna screw a metal pipe onto out ledge, and screwin cylinders is murder!! I might do that instead

Just make sure whenever you screw the sheet onto your rail that you don't put any screws near where you're going to grind because they'll all stick out a bit and probably catch your trucks and take chunks out of your deck.
I'm not to sure, try one sheet first to see how well it holds up. If it starts to wear in even a bit then double it up! Experiment a little and keep those good ideas flowing

i tried that and i would not use that rail plan because the wood under the metal is weak and if u pop the truck or peg on the rail it rill dent and u stop i tried the idea so just pick up some angle metal it is cheap

For a few bucks more, you could just get a pipe to put on top of the 2X4.... just drill a hole in it and screw through it. Try the sheetmetal idea though, let me know how it holds up. Hope this helps. Peace.

what you should do is make a 2x4 rail then take pvc pipe and dtill a small hole in both ends (all the way through). then drill a hole at the exact same spot in the 2x4 rail. then take 2 nuts, 2 bolts. and 4 washers and put the bolt through the hole in the rail and once tis on the in side of the rail stick the washer on it. then pull it through the 2x4 and put the washer on then the bolt.
get all that? its kinda hard to explain.
hope it helps;)

Sheet metal isn't exactly the slickest material, I'd stay away to be honest. Just throw some angle iron, or some steel on it...find some flat steel possibly.

mrock is right if you can get to a napa or somtin it is actualy kinda cheap to get angle iron/steel but it is up to you if you want this way it will be a flat rail or use the rail plan that someone said if you want to practice handf rails not ledges
