How long did it take you to do an ollie? So far i have the foot work down but I have a little bit of fear thats keeping me not from going up. So how long did it take you to do an ollie?

it took me about 3 hours. its real easy and once u do a few and land em youll be saying damn these are easy. heres how i learnt.

this is for stationary
first you need to know how to position your feet. then i would bend down real far put my right hand on the ground cuz im regular stance, left hand if your goofy, and then pop the tail REAL REAL HARD with all your power and push off with your hand. the hand i think gives you more stability and power but thats just me when i was learning. then drag your front foot up a little and land it. practice what i told you and you should get it in no time.

Oh i didnt know you had to push down really really hard and pushing up with your hand gives you more power? Okay ill try that. Its kinda hard for me because im using like a old board i havent really bought one... I need to buy one. And im not using skater shoes.

You don't have to bend down so far that your hand touches the ground. Here's what I had to do:

1. Put your back foot on the tail so the heel hangs off a bit and your front foot in the middle OR between the middle and the front bolts of the board so your toes and part of your heel hangs off.
http://www.skateboard-city.com/Trick-Tips/feet/ollie.png
2. Crouch with your knees, but don't bend over. Look at your board and feet.
3. Suddenly raise your arms and torso up to start the jump.
4. When you're almost out of your crouch, slam the tail against the ground with your back foot and straighten out your back leg while doing so to get more force. Jump with your back foot right after you feel the tail slam.
5. Right after you've done that, 'drag' your front foot up the board. With most people it'll go sideways and make sure that the drag is loose or your foot won't move up the griptape. Crouch with both legs in the air to get maximum height (remember that an ollie won't lift you up, you're basically lifting the board up with your body. Your head will hardly move except for when you crouch at the start.)
6. When your front foot is at the front concave, stop dragging and push it forward. This will make the back side of the board come up to your back foot.
7. You should be done at this point, so slam the board down or let yourself fall.

Woo, that was the most detailed explanation I've wrote. Good luck.

Oh i didnt know you had to push down really really hard and pushing up with your hand gives you more power?
I wouldn't recommend that you try that.
Okay ill try that. Its kinda hard for me because im using like a old board i havent really bought one...
I learned to ollie with a crappy old board. Just practice a lot.
I need to buy one. And im not using skater shoes.
If you're going to get into skating, you have to get skating shoes sometime. Your normal ones will get shredded, and the possibility of spraining your ankle is higher.

I still haven't learned learned i'm a noob.

But throughout practising alot, i realised i didn't know what a "pop" was. I just basically pushed my foot down, touching the ground, and than jumping. but i realised you actually have to not hit the ground with your foot.

Well, technically i only spelled PRACTICE wrong once, because i just copied and pasted. Don't make fun of my stupidness. And Iconic I'll still always be making fun of you because of your insane amount of spamming. How many posts you up to? 724? and you joined in October? Calm down Mr. Post Happy.

And you can make fun of me about the practice thing, that was pretty stupid. :)

Your back foot always comes off, because you're jumping with it. Push the board forward when your front foot is at the nose and the back end will come up to your back foot.

Yea i remember when i learend how to do an ollie, (cause it was ilke 2 days ago lol).

remember one thing that soemone told me.
1. Just do that foot position shit, and shift your weight from left foot to right foot.
2. Once wait is on right food, JUMP OFF of the right food, popping the board.
3. THan slide ur left leg up the board to even it out.

and 2 tips.
1. Make sure you know what a pop is, cuase if you don't you can't do the trick.
2. Falling is the only way to learn. be a man go on pathement.

O and btw it took me about 2 hours to fuly get it. Took me an additional 20 minutes to learn it moving.

I tried your advice. My step brother was watching to see if all the wheels go up. And on one of the wheels from my tail dont go up.

I've got the same problem. Is it the front wheel at the tail? And how did you solve it? I guess it's all about weight balance and how far you place your feet on the board..

I just started skating myself, i practiced my footwork and bending my knees high enough, it took abuot 2 weeks for me. at first i was trying to hard and slammed the board hard on the ground. try to relax and just float with the board. trust me after the first time you get it you'll be able to do it again and again and again without trying...good luck

GodDamnBeginner
12-23-2005, 06:20 PM
i might have exaggerated a lil on my first reply, i first technically started skating a few months ago but i gave up for a long time, it wasnt until the last 3 weeks that i actually stepped on the skateboard but i wasnt starting from skratch, all i can tell you is practice, practice, practice, have patience and dont lose your temper when you dont get it...thats kinda how my first board has a tail split in half...

danielb

since my first board? which was a peice of crap from wal-mart that would be about 6 months before i could level out and roll and ollie

another problem is people thinking they can ollie and they can't. :\

happened to me i thought i could do it in a day, and after an hour i was like "omg i can do an ollie yay" and my friend came over and was ilke, wtf thats not an ollie... And than he taught me actually how to do it lol.

ok screw what i said before, i didn't know what an ollie was lol. To actually do an ollie / an ollie moving, it took me about 1 week - 2 weeks. I just practised everday, and one day i just got it. I read ALOT OF TIPS and ALOT OF VID's just to get it down :-).

I got it on about my second or third day of skating. Pretty much what I did was:

This is for stationary btw,

1. Place front foot in the center of the board, maybe a little bit closer to the back set of the front bolts. My toes stop right at the edge of the board and a little bit of my heel hangs off the other side. Always keep you eyes on your feet and the deck.

2. Placed back foot on the very edge of the tail, in the center.

3. Bend knees, keeping feet in the same position, and begin the motion; my upper body raises quickly and I begin to jump, using only my back foot to propel myself into the air. The tail will slam against the ground, and the nose will pop up. If you did the motion correctly, you should have jumped into the air at the same time as pushing down the tail, if the force was great enough, and if you jumped high enough, the board will pop into the air right underneath you.

3. Slide, drag, or glide your front foot up towards the concave of the nose, and tuck your back foot up towards your chest. Stop your front foot when the front edge of your front foot reaches the end of the concave, and your back foot when it's over top of the back bolts.

4. You'll be coming down now, so bend your knees to absorb the shock from hitting the ground, and stabilize the board underneath you. If all goes well, the board will hit the ground and stay still. And you would have ollied.

it took me about 1 month...i can ollie fairly well, but i still practice it everytime i skate...just cuz you can ollie a foot, dont mean you dont have to practice no more...when i first landed my ollie i only came about 3 inches off the ground. now i can ollie 1-2 decks...just practice and your ollies will get better...good luck dude.

You don't have to bend down so far that your hand touches the ground. Here's what I had to do:

1. Put your back foot on the tail so the heel hangs off a bit and your front foot in the middle OR between the middle and the front bolts of the board so your toes and part of your heel hangs off.

6. When your front foot is at the front concave, stop dragging and push it forward. This will make the back side of the board come up to your back foot.
7. You should be done at this point, so slam the board down or let yourself fall.
