Hey grant,
Check out download.com and type in video editing. There are a bunch of free and trail versions you can test out. I only really use Premiere so unless you have it I can't help much.
I would recommend leaving your video as a video. Animated GIF files look really crappy I find. Try converting them into a Quicktime .mov format or even .asf. for good quality and small file size.

Hey ramprage, I have adobe premiere 6 and I can't make .asf files, only .wmv files. Are they the same things or do I need to install a .asf pack to it?

Act, u can make ya clips into animated gifs that do luk like real clips.
Download Virtualdub somewhere off the net, load ya clip into it and then save every single little frame that u want and whao la . . . u got an anitmated gif that luks JUST like ya film. I'm guna do that.

Gif's aren't bad, I don't think I'd prefer them for a long video, seeing as they are 90% of the time choppy. Gif's also play as they are downloaded (if being embedded in a webpage), so people with slow connections will have enough trouble, as it is. At the very least, make it a quicktime movie.

How can I save a .jpg from a video clip using Premiere? So I can make stills or a sequence...

For a videograb: File | Export | Frame... it saves it as a .bmp so now you go into adobe or PSP and open the .bmp and convert it and lower the file size.
