Well i put my new stick together Christmas day. A Cohort Chase deck. (I'm still waiting to get my "Old School" deck) with Indys and i bought two sets of wheels Powell Oval Dragons (soft and smallish) and some harder G Bones.
I have a slight slope to my drive and it is smooth as glass. The G bones are a bit harsh when i leave drive. But i could feel how much faster the new bearing technology of today is (Bones Swiss 6s). 25 years of rust will not come off easy. I could slide the G bones pretty easy. There is a lip at the top of my drive that i would frontside off of and slide or "wheel". The temp of the day made my wheels even harder so sliding was too easy. I was pumping side to side and the rears slipped out and i could feel myself launch, i fought it for just a second then i just let myself roll. Bounced right to my feet and hopped right back on. First fall out of the way!
I switched to the Oval Dragons and could carve a lot harder. Frontsides, backsides even did a few 360s. Berts were always fun back in the day...they were no different in my driveway this Christmas. There is also a trick we used to do i don't know what it is called... you fly up a bank and instead of frontside or backside you spin the board by the nose so you are goofy footed, then jump up and 180 back to conventional then roll down the bank...there were a few variations of this we would always do. Saw some dude from Cali beat me in a contest doing that shiz…he had good footwork…surfers always rode smoother, better footwork, etc
My forty year old feet forgot what it was like, they are sore today sitting here at work. I also strained my calf carving for craps sake...could barely walk. I have forgotten how much fun we used to have this is a blast !!!
