Well it's tough when you can't find your glue stick and you don't have the proper untencils AT ALL and your stencil is just plain A4 paper...but hey, this is something I just recently slapped onto my board.

Anberlin is my favourite band, for you who probably weren't curious.

Well I'm off to scrub the vehicle spray off my hands.

Just from a bit further back....there was lighting trouble, but I couldn't be bothered taking some sort of pro photo. Or something. 'm.

Really clear and clean. I used to have a problem that my stencils smudged but i use a paint brush and dab it now.

Nice job, cryptic. Me and my band, in our off time, make stencils of bands. We make people shirts and stuff. Here's some examples:

One of my band's old shirts (Before we changed our name):

We made this one, too:

dude i think i heard of subvert citizens before.Did they ever make it famous?

Snaker
01-15-2006, 09:44 PM
Eh we had a decent following, but I wouldn't say famous. We changed our name to Doves Lie Dead though. And before people shout, "EMO!", lemme explain it: In the scene where we live and play our music, all the bands and people around them are always fighting with each other; peace is dead. Thus, Doves Lie Dead.

Awesome, Snaker. What did you cut the stencil with? And what material was it?

Snaker

We use razor blades, and on just plain binder paper most the time.

those shirts look pretty nice, but to make them look cleaner i suggest next time you silk screen them instead. shit looks real clean and nice, and the ink lasts longer than spray paint. it's also easier to do once you have a screen.

Yeah Silk Screening is good, but the shirts still look sweet.

Snaker, how exactly do you do pictures with stencils? I think I'll try tonight.

Yeah thats nice and clean. I stencil stuff like that and logo's.

Heh, you really have to know what to cut, and what not to cut. It can be really difficult with big pictures like what Snaker did.

Snaker
01-22-2006, 02:57 AM
Yep. If you have something small and thresheld, like this, it can be fairly easy; just cout out all of one color:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/d/de/Crass.jpg/180px-Crass.jpg

But, if it's larger and has more colors, it can be much, much more difficult; you have to have a good eye for it to know what to cut. For example, here's the origin picture of the second shirt:

AND it takes AGES. It's a really tedious art form, but it's SO worth it.

Snaker

Oh, yeah. It takes for ****ing ever to do. Especially complex stuff, where you have to go incredibly slow and be very detailed with the razor blade.

i like anberlin as well.

Anberlin ROCK.

Snaker, I know how you feel. It's insane because if you make ONE mistake, the whole thing is ruined and you can't rectify it. Curves are the most annoying part, unless you're experienced with curved blades...and mine is broken...so I'm not.

Lol, im looking at those stencils of both cryptic and snaker and then i look and mine and say what the **** went wrong. Next time ill be more careful with cutting it. But yeah awesome job snaker and cryptic im gonna have to start paying u guys for stencils.

Hahaha it takes practice.

Snaker, what kind of spray did you use for the shirts? I used vehicle spray for my board but judging by the extent to which it hardened when I forgot to wash it off my hands, it's probably not cool for a shirt.

What spray should I get to stencil black jeans? Or clothes in general?

Snaker
01-24-2006, 05:35 PM
Well, I just use normal spray paint for black on white clothes. One layer on, let dry, then another to finish it. NEVER use water-based paint; it runs.

crypticpoet
01-25-2006, 08:12 AM
Hmm I'll have to try it. I'm just worried about sticking it in the wash.
