My band, Subvert Citizens, has recently changed our name to Doves Lie Dead (not emo, don't assume shit). So, we recorded some new songs to put out under the new name. Check it out and give me some opinions.

I like the distortion on the guitar a lot. What pedal(s)/guitar(s) does he use?.

the rest is pretty cool too though to be honest i think i preffered your old name over the new one.

We use a ESP Viper guitar (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/516652/)
http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/0/0/6/273006.jpg

and for distortion, we just fine-tuned the overdrive on his Crate tube head. (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/487681/)

Thanks for the imput guys. We try our best. I think the music is pretty good for being completely written, played, and recorded by a bunch of 16-19 year old kids, ya know?

What exactly do you play in the band?

Your freedom is death is the best song up there, like the range of screams on it. I like that you guys arent afraid to keep it straight up oldschool punk hardcore.

Well, you can't, not yet. We're not done recording yet; we're halfway done. This is just what we have so far. I'll tell ya guys when we're done recording.

Maybe, I dunno if the label we're talking to operates in Europe. But I know I can personally send you one, though.

Hm... reminds me a screamier Dead Kennedys. Did you guys record it quiet? I had to turn my volume up halfway to hear it.

Eh, when we mixed it, it got quieter.

Nah, the way we recorded it was we did the drums and guitar at the same time, and turned the guitar cab away from the drums. Once we get it mixed right on the pre-8 track mixing board, it worked fine.

its so crap :-42:
Well, I suppose you're allowed to have your own opinion. But since you like Less Than Jake enough to have it be your screen name, I don't think your opinion matters much.

What equpment did you use to record im think about doing some stuff. I need to get a mic, mixer and a good recording program(my friend has adobe audition that should be fine).

We use a Tascam DP-01 8 track (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Guitar/Recording/Gear?sku=241106):
http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/3/8/5/223385.jpg

A Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Live/Sound/Mixers?sku=631238):
http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/4/7/4/282474.jpg

And at least five or six mics. Usually three for drums (to pick up all the various drums), one for guitar, and we use two more for vocals, because we have two vocalists. DO NOT MOVE THE DRUM MICS ONCE YOU GET THE DRUMS SOUNDING GOOD! Even the slightest movement can mess it up. The guitar mic can be moved and used for bass, the positioning for those aren't so touchy: just us a boom stand and get it about a half inch away from one of the speakers in the cab. We use any mics we can get ahold of, but our pride and joy one and the best sounding ones are condenser mics, like this one (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Live/Sound/Microphones/Wireless?sku=271243):
http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/2/8/3/224283.jpg

And for mixing, I use Acoustica Audio Mixer (http://www.download.com/Acoustica-MP3-Audio-Mixer/3000-2170_4-10188373.html?tag=lst-0-3). What you have should work, though.

could i do a DI for the bass and guitars??

Snaker
02-02-2006, 02:13 AM
You could, but unless you have the guitar go through an effect pedal before it goes into the 8 track, it wouldnt sound that good. Post-recording effects shouldn't be trusted. And, from personal experience, it's easier for the guitarist and bassist to get it right when they can hear themselves well.
