View Full Version : Okay, my first question...

I'm 20-years-old and live on my own and work as a lowly "sandwich-technician" and invariably I don't have medical insurance nor any parents who're willing to front me cash if I get ****ed up. My question is, how do you older skaters who're on your own afford these busted up bones, man? I'm new to it and afraid to really go balls-out (which, I'm told, is how you become a very good skater and not a bad one) because I am ****in' poor and don't have medical insurance.

Buy pads. Or Health Insurance.

Yeah, I know you can buy health insurance for a year's term, but it's lofty and I'm pretty broke.

I guess I could wear pads; I would look like a goof-ball wearing them, but atleast I'd be safe?

-- I considered moving to B.C. for a long time because I loved the people there, and because of the health insurance and further political policies I agree with, as well as the fact that, hey! They've got good buds, ya know? heh I'm going to Musician's Institute in Hollywood :-46: in September for 4 years, so no such luck on expatriating and fleeing Sam's grips just yet. --

I think if I had free health insurance and no deductible to cover, I'd just skate off of buildings and shit (okay, not really). heh I'd get good at a trick and then just go crazy with it. "Oops. I broke my arm and collarbone. Native Canada, please pay for it!" :-41: :-41: Two thumbs up for Canada's superior, albeit second-tier, medicare! I wish I had a free 24-hour medical clinic. If you live in Ontario you've got it pretty good.

Lol, a bunch of skaters in Blue Ash(including me) skate off a building called El Toro at night. But shhhhh....No one knows.

Yeah. I always wondered how people got the giant balls and/or idiocy it takes to do some of the crazy shit I've seen in street videos. It takes a clogging of synapses with enough bong resin to do that sort of thing, I guess. If you get good enough at anything I guess your confidence will build to that kind of climax.

One day I will do that sort of thing. I haven't even enough guts to try a small, 5 inch rail right now.

the other option is the arm, navy, or air force national guard. yo get money for traing and while you do you 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year, you get a monthly check and free medical and base access which means good skateparks. go for this, i am. when im out of high skool

Yeah, but we're also in the middle of a war involving combat with incredibly well-organized guerrilla fighters the likes of which we've not seen since the Vietnam war, a war which took us 18 years to lose, I'll add. Being in the national guard isn't some kind of picnic, bro. When Sam decides to put you under his diction with heavy-hand, you will experience some seriously egregious shit, and for much longer periods than 1 weekend a month. When you enter the guard Sam takes up your number and he'll find you when he needs you for powder.

In the Gulf War the "auxiliary reserve" left home 63,000 strong to enter Kuwait and Iraq. You wanna come home in a box for a war you don't believe in (I hope you don't), and for medical coverage? Be my guest, although the latter would create a rather ironic situation.

No thanks, brother.

If your just starting out there is virtually nothing to worry about...do you expect to be olleing off buildings right away if so you should go pro man. You can practice any flat land trick on flat land and I guarentee you that you will not break a bone. Atleast I haven't and I've been skating for over half a year now. Just don't worry about it and skate, noone's expecting you to do ledges or stairs if you don't want to and if you do I see a lot of people wear pads when they do big stuff.

it was just a suggestion. but if you are in the air force guard and not in any combat postion, your safe for sure cuz your on a bace with computers and you get paid more for being at war. thats a good thought though that you said man.

Umm not to burst your bubbly but by simply moving to Canada you aren't covered by our healthcare :) You need to be a Canadian. Save money, finish high school and go to college and get an education.

Practice tech. It's fun, makes you look like a pimp, and isn't nearly as dangerous as doing 360 Mctwist nollie lazer flip 5-0s off buildings.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I think it would take a moron to think that you could go to another country and get all their benefits and be part of all of their systemic functions, although more and more skaters have proven themselves brain-dead to me everyday and would probably believe that legitimately.

I was thinking about expatriating before this anyway, for many reasons. I graduated high school in 2003 and spend some time doing some soul searching. I'm definately not a high school student or a mongoloid moron.

Rob a bank with your finger in your pocket, shouting" I have a gun in my pocket!" And then jump on a moped and look cool. Or higher a midget to do it. Then you'll have money. Lol.

A moped? What am I? A pseudo-Mod now? heh

I think I'd rather just not skateboard than rob a bank and go to jail and get sexed in the ass by large, irascible men, but, you know; angry gay sex isn't my thing.
