What's up dudes? I have a bit of a rant, just a warning. How many of you guys see the kids in the Element hoodies, riding around on their fresh, clean boards, acting like morons? You know who i'm talking about, the kids who are obsessed with sponsors, and looking cool. They could care less about breaking a deck, they got lots of money, they just go buy more. These are the kids who have been skating maybe 1-2 year tops. I had the chance to talk to one. I was talking decks, and I asked him if he knew what DogTown was. He said yeah, and we began talking. And i'm not kidding, he thought that it came from a place called Dogtown, California. What he did not realize is that DogTown is a ghost town. He also did not realize that DogTown came from Venice, California. The kid knew nothing of skate history, the kid didn't even know who Gator was. He was confused when I was talking about Kerry Getz! It was sad! This kid thought that Longboards were a new thing, and that pool boards were for grommets. The kid, like so many of the youth, conformists. They don't really care about skating, they're just into it because it's "Cool." It is really sad, you have all these stupid kids coming in, who snap a deck because the get mad about not lading a Kick flip. These are the spoilt kids, who buy the 80 dollar skate shoes when they start looking a bit worn. They don't realize that skating is not all about money, fame, and sponsors. They don't realize it's about fun...It is a true shame. They try to act tough, and call everyone who doesn't wear "Skater clothes" or ride an Element a noob. They think it's cool to put nubs down. It is really sad, it really makes me worry about the future of the sport.

dude you should come to where I live, every week I go to chinese school these two noobs (I dont care I'm calling them noobs) have to comment on every move you mess up on, ride element decks that say I <3 NY on them, and always have to be competitive about it. And when you talk about liek alien workshop with them they just go "omg those graphics are so wierd". Let me tell you, if they make skating into some kind of competitive sport I will kill you.

Right on. I went to a skatepark today, and I saw a kid in brand new Adio Shoes, An Adio Tee, Some shorts that had a tiny element logo on the side pocket, A BAM hat, and Kenny V.1's.....All Brand new. Then he snapped a deck that couldn't have been more than a week old, because he couldn't drop in.

Dude, I was at the park today, just got back. This gang of kids came in, about for of 'em. They couldn't be over 12 or 13, short as hell. They kept snaking rides on the roll in, and when I told them to let someone else go, they had a fit. They were calling people nubs, and whenever they couldn't land a trick they'd throw their new boards into the wall. They couldn't do crap, they kept walking around infront of the roll ins, and they trolled the bottom of the bowl. One of them got so mad, that he jumped on his board until it snapped. Then he went in to the shop, and bought another one, in cash. He came out, and couldn't land crap, kept blaming his wheels. These kids were annoying, and horrid, but they thought they were hardasses. I was working the foam pit, doing Indy 180's into it, and having a good time, and this group comes over. The moment they got up, they cut up and snaked my run. Then they started complaning, because they couldn't get their boards past the kicker, and they blamed their griptape. After they came by, I only got a few in. I asked them why the hell they were snaking, and guess what they said. Just guess. "You're a prick." I swear to God..They come over, with their fresh decks, and their 80 dollar shoes, snake the pit, but they have the cahaones to call me a prick. I was suprised. These kids are disrespectful, spolt snobs.

Yeah, they'll skate for a year or two, and when it dies down, they will leave. They will just leave it behind, and not even think about it. But the true skaters will stick with it. And then it will become popular again, and repeat the cycle. Just stick with it and keep shreddin'.

Maybe you're too elitist. I've only been skating a few months, and I don't know who Gator is, and the only history I know is from the DogTown movie and ramdom stuff online, but that doesn't make me an little shit. I'll never buy some company's clothes unless they're shoes.
Punk directed me toward skating and I got a board when I got enough money. I didn't do it just because it's trendy right now.
I can see you point though. I haven't seen many kids slamming their boards or anything, but just about every person in my school (atleast the ones with rich families) have shitloads of skate gear. What's worse is seeing them with better shoes than mine (which are second-hand... foot), and they'll never br put to good use.

I actually saw some kids one day with all the Element gear and stuff and I thought they were going to be a bunch of slobs, but they ended up ok. I actually gave them pointers. They did snake a bit, but I didn't mind much because I was on one side of this mini and there was enough room for like 3 people. There's not alot of kids like that around where I live.

over here in nz labels are pretty important and i think this realy arises the issue that you dont have to wear all label clothing and as you say it reali actually is only the rich people who can afford to be completely decked out in the labels but for me i scrimp and save to get a couple of tees and a pair of jeans that are good quality because then i know they are going to last longer but i think your right too much emphasis is on labels and if you dont have them than your not 'cool' and cant skate because you dont have the 'cool' labels which is complete crap.right now over here skating isnt the 'in' thing.gangster and hip hop are what everyones into most of the youth are what i like to call sheep they jus follow each other and the media and arent individuals.to me it doesnt matter what you look like if you skate you skate simple as that.im the only girl that skates at my school and everyone frowns upon me i just laugh back because i love it and i dont care what anyone says or thinks about me.those guys will only be doing it while its the 'in' thing and then they will pass and go onto bmx or something. the skate parks here are really for the 'cool' people so its hard to break in and you get called all sorts thats just because none of them have balls to actually skate so resort to standing and carrying about saying shit to make themselves look hard.peace out

if you go to the skatepark where i live (sacramento, CA) just about all the "skaters" at the skatepark dont know jack. this kid was like o ya i just snapped my board olling a 5 stair and his board was from toys R us or at least it looked like it...and it also looked like it was through world war 1 so theres nothing really to be proud of breaking a chinese made deck. and all over his griptape was the HIM logo and im pretty sure he hasnt heard 1 song by HIM. its ridiculas...

I may be relitively new to skating, but I dont spend 80$ on shoes, try 40$. And I dont buy decks every time one loses a graphic, I ride Blanks anyway.
I do know kids who do that stuff though. Bastards. They think skating is a style. No, its life.

That is David Hasslehoff at the peak of the Baywatch years. Total kook trying to get in on the "fad" of the time.
There will always be kooks when something is popular. Look at all the 300 pound kids wearing basketball jersey's and $100 Nike's. You know the only thing they are dunking is donuts.
There will always bee kooks. Its our job to point and laugh when you see them.
