Yesterday (with the help of a teenaged "carpenter") we managed to put together a 1/4 pipe and a fun box for the boys to skate. My son can hold his own...but the neighborhood kids worry me...these kats seem way more reckless than I remember ever being. Intuition tells me that it is just a matter of time before one of them ends up bust'n their nugget in my drive way. When I skated I never considered a helmet as an option...but I was older when I started (16) and hardheaded. Now that I have the mama thang going on I can't help but to be concerned. The age groups that I am referring to are between 8 - 11...not sure if I should let these kats learn the hard way...or "make" them wear head gear? Lame question...probably, but I seriously don't know what position I should take now that the ramps are in place.
I also considered just throwing up a sign that says ""skate at your own risk"...but that just seems like I am pointing out the obvious.

Let' em learn the hardway. But call all their parent's and say they are skating at their own risk :)
That way, you don't get sued, and you get the pleasure of watching little kids fall down.

yea just call their parents and make sure it's ok with them then you can let them skate without it being on your concious all the time, but if you think it's appropriate you can tell them to wear a helmet whenever they're using the ramp or fun box but that it's ok if they don't on flatland I guess that's a reasonable compromise.
