Well...first you need a camcorder. If you already have one...forget what I'm about to say.

I'd say the lowest type of camcorder is a VHS one...which you place normal video tapes in, turn it on, hit record, and go tape. For that type of camcorder, you'd need a Capture card. What you'd do, is hook an RCA cord from your VCR/Camcorder to your capture card..and there would be a special program inluded to upload it.

You can step up a bit..and get a camcorder that is firewire enabled. The only requirement there..would be you'd need a firewire port on your computer. If you don't have one, you can always buy them, of course.

After you find a way to upload your video to the computer...you need software. You can use a huge amount of software for video editing. I use Animation shop 2 for my simple frame editing. What I mean by that is, I'll upload video...and I might have uploaded to much, or I might want to 'cut' a bit off the video. I use Animation shop 2...to do that simple editing. I then export as an .Avi...into Adobe Premeire. Adobe Premiere has been popular among people, yet it is very expensive. Isn't it odd, that a lot of the under 16 year olds here can afford $500+ software? hmm...

However you wish to get video editing software, you need it. There's also Final cut pro, which is made for Mac systems, which is used by many professional's (such as my brother)...Final cut runs about $1,000...but from what I've seen of it..is worth every dime.

After you get software, there will be a way to import clips into the program. You simply import them...then will normally put them into a timeline. You can normally do your slow-motion, speeding up, effects, etc, at this stage...or before if needed.

I'm sorry if I came across way to confused..it's late...and I started typing...honestly, I have no clue if any of this made sense...so if not..disregard it...good luck.

Yep, Mrock said good

Mgi videowave is reeeeeallly easy to use, Adobe premiere 6 is a great for ppl who are focused on editing, u can learn to use it by urself, liek what i did! :)... just read the help section... But i sigguset to get the basics of what editing would be like.... Windows movie maker is soo simply that u dont need instructions to work it... Drag and drop is the thme of it

so approach windows movie maker first...

p.s: learning premiere 6 the functions would be a reeeally good lesson cuz there are sooooooooo many functions that it can do for u, u just gotta get use to it
