View Full Version : Why buy an Xbox 360?

I'm not trying to start a flame war, I just would like to know. I've asked many people. Some say graphics. I tell them how much better PCs are right now, and how much better the Revo and the PS3 willbe. They say it has a harddrive, but so did the original xbox, the ps2, and soon the PS3. Some of them have one word answers. Halo. No console FPS shooter, with the exception of Goldeneye 007, and *maybe* the ones that will be coming out on the Revo (their controllers are supposed to handle FPS as good as Mouse/Keyboards), can come close to what can be offered for PC.
What does the Xbox 360 have over the competition?

If anybody should get a 360 then they should wait a year. Xbox came out with around 12 games that wernt that great but thier supposed to get games that are worth playing. Halo 3 is supposed to come out in like 2 years so ill be waiting for that.

Halo is a sweet game. I'll probably just go over to a friends house and use their Xbox to play that game.
PS3 though is supposed to have way better graphics then Xbox, so I advise you to buy a PS3. That is what I plan on buying!

Xbox360 is a big expense, the system costs WAY to much to sit around and play video games. Get yourself a PS2 for like $125 and you can find games for it for like $5-10 each..with thousands of titles to choose from, you can't get better than that.
Xbox has a handful of games.. I know I sure as hell wouldn't pay that much for a console system you might as well get a new PC to play games.

Halo is like Zelda. They're both the only real reasons to buy a console, but they're both reason enough to justify the purchase. Playstation doesn't have a game like this for me so theirs no real reason for me to buy one. Halo is the only game I've ever encountered that can keep me entertained consistently until the next one comes out. I was playing Halo 1 from the day I got my xbox right up until Halo 2 hit the shelves, and it looks like that is going to be the case with Halo 3. I don't see any reason to buy a 360 right now, but once Halo 3 is out and the price drops, I'll have one. It all just depends on the games you can and cannot do without.

Nothing. Don't buy one.

Well, I like the graphics and cant afford a good gaming pc
After buying all the extra accessories, like a controller for 50 bucks, pcs are cheaper, with graphics that, depending on what you consider better graphics, are better. By that I mean that PCs have higher framerates but HDTV is at a higher resolution. Although, resolution isn't very important when there are major problems with the games. Just read the cnet reviews. In tony hawk, playing on an HDTV actually makes it worse because it just exposes the shitty graphics in the game. In Quake 4, which runs spectacularly on pc is a framerate mess on the 360.
Here's an awesome gaming pc for less than an Xbox 360 after buying 2 extra controllers, xbox live for a year, 2 games.
AMD 3200 processor
K8NF-9 Mobo
512 MB RAM
40 gig hdd
Dual layer dvd burner
Geforce 6600 256 MB vid card
--583 bucks.
Also, if you already have a pc that was bought 2 or 3 years ago, a 150 dollar vid card and an extra half gig of ram can let you run the newest games flawlessly. I run Battlefield 2 and Doom 3 on a celeron 2.4 ghz, 640 MB ram, and a 256MB 150 dollar vid card.
To the person that said Halo was worth it, I know it's just oppinion, but I disagree. I played it and bored immediately. Unreal tournament 04 is way better, and when UT07 comes out, I'm definitely buying it. For the PC.

It's a lot more affordable to build a PC. Ignore people who tell you to waste money on that AlienWare shit.

I agree. I just bought a dfi mobo with a 3200+ processor and 512 3200 Ram for 294 bucks.

Xbox 360 has awesome online features like the marketplace, gamerpics, themes, gamercards, downloadable demos, a reputation system, a point system that everybody can look at, Perfect Dark Zero has no lag, Tony Hawk American Wasteland has barely any lag, and Halo 2 is the same on it as it was on Xbox Live (awesome.)

Which is all useless if you buy the Core system or don't have an internet connection.
Perfect Dark Zero has no lag,
Same as above, and that game isn't that great anyway.
Tony Hawk American Wasteland has barely any lag,
You might as well buy the Xbox version for it, because they're exactly the same.
and Halo 2 is the same on it as it was on Xbox Live (awesome.)
Which is why you save money and get an Xbox.
I think Microsoft released it way too early and has a crappy Core/Premium pack idea. Just my opinion.

Well, one reason that I would get a console over a pc is that I'm too lazy to learn about computers. I guess that's my problem, but oh well. I don't even like video gaming. Sometimes I start up cs 1.6 when I'm bored and my gamecube is just sitting there collecting dust.

If it's just a matter of console or pc, it's understandable for people who are unwilling to learn about pcs to buy consoles; but if that's the case, the only thing the 360 has over its competitors is its release date, because it's the only 7th gen console out right now.

PC's are the only way to go. I really like consoles but honestly Consoles aren't as fast, and they're slowly getting way more expensive, and they're taking forever to come out, like Ps3. The estimate date for ps3 was this Spring of '06 but now they have to prolong it till Winter of '06 or early Spring of '07.
AND! the estimated price for a PS3 is going up to 900 some dollars. I haven't done any research on the Revolution yet. Although, I'm sure the price is going to be inflated... and well I just like got a new computer for 500$ and it's a beast.

No, the cost to make a PS3 is around 900 dollars and the price when it comes out is estimated to be $299-399.

The PS2 didn't have a hard drive, but you could buy one for it.

Why would sony pay $900 to make a PS3 and then sell it at like $400?
And beside with that cell power technology crap you'll probally have to return it because the first batch is bound to have screw-ups like the 360, or end up waiting a looooooong ass time.
And besides I like halo better than final fantasy and crap so i'm getting a 360.

Make a ps3 for 900$ to sell it for 400$? Thats just retarded. Its going to be no better than the 360. The ps3 controllers are ****ing retarded, the cell technology will break for the first two months and it looks just like a scanner/fax machine. The 360 had it's problems at first but they have been worked out just as the ps3's will be. The ps3 will use 512 ram but it will be split between two systems in it. The 360 has two seperate 512 ram for the systems in it. The graphics will be the same, it will run the same, and will have no notable differences besides xboxlive and ps3's blue tooth controllers. Really, the revo will be the only system making a big change with its changes. Ill end up getting all three but not before they all drop a couple hundred. And my pc runs great for fps. The prefect gaming computer.

Totally agree. Halo 3 is the sole reason I got an XBOX 360. Just waiting for it to come out now. =p
XBOX 360, in my opinion, pretty much sucks. There's really not too special about it that stands out.

I don't know, that's just what people said on a video game show.
WeezzEER
03-03-2006, 07:15 PM
They'll probably do that so that people will actually buy the console and then people pay royalties to PS3, Everytime they make a game. The moneys in the gaming industry not the console. And if the price is too high then no one is going to buy the console. X-box 360 did the same exact thing. It costs about 750-900 $ to make a X-box 360, but they sell if for like 400-500 $.
