how long have you been skating? It takes some people a LONG time. Try years.

try consentrating on dragging your foot up the board and if that doesnt work then just consentrate on jumping and laning when you pop the tail

My mate Jason got his ollie two years into skating. Just keep skating, and you'll get it. I thought that I would never be able to ollie either. One month from that first day...I got mine.

That's what Jason says everytime my friend that just started lands a trick. I.e. Akash lands a pop shove-it after 1 week of skating. Jason starts telling him how he landed it his first day.

Example me, it took me years to learn how to ollie good and I still mess up on them but if you really love skateboarding you will stick with it. I've been skateboard for 6 years and I'm not that good it took me like 2-3 years to get a good ollie going.

Now today i just hop on my board and my ollies are great! I dont understand me and ollies, its really weird, for me. But you really need practise, it will help trust me!

Its all timing. Pop, and similtaneously(sp?) jump. That may confuse you. Next, drag your foot up right when you start jumping, and KEEP PRACTICING.

:-41: :-41: 'Just Skate Dude' is right but you could also not concentrate on popping the board by just jumping off your back foot. that alone will pop the board. you can also do it by moving a little. then when you jump, your momentum will drag your front foot up the board. do that for a couple of weeks and then you should get it.

you can't really practice if you're feet are in the wrong position. make sure your toes are squarely on the board, with you're heels hanging off. keep your front foot about 2 inches under the front to bolts and keep your back foot smack in the middle of the tail. stay on the balls of your feet. then just run the process of ollieing through you're head. pop, slide, jump, catch, land.

Ollies are a mystery you just have to feel out what works for you and tell your body to do it. I swear sometimes i could ollie the same way twice and one would be terrible and the other good. Just keep practicing and have faith and believe me no one will have a good ollie in the first few months of skating.

it took me 3 weeks to do a proper ollie leveling out. I taught my friend how to ollie. This is what i told him. LEARN THEM STILL, it will make it easier for u and though heaps of people say learn them moving just dont. Tru to pop without any drag first. WHen u can get off the ground a bit then learn the drag. Then use the trick tips on this site to get ur ollies at around 4 to 5 or even maybe 6 inches. THEN learn them moving. first try to do them really really slow. Then go a bit faster. and then faster. when u can ollie at reasonable speeds. Try ollie over a crack or line. Next try ollie onto a small 2 centimetre high plank of wood. Then keep on adding it up until it gets at around 7 inches. then just try doing over anything. I bet ya there will be people saying make sure u learn em while moving. Even though u can learn them a bit faster, my way can get u do ollies without getting frustrated and annoyed and wanting to stop skating.

Heres some tips:

- When your tail hits the ground, IMMEDIATLY jump up and slide your foot forward.

- Stay centered over your board.

- Try to land with both feet on the respective bolts.

- Dont get frustrated, keep trying.

- Watch some videos in slow motion and see the form of the guys.

All in all, im not to good at ollies but I can get like 6-8in off the ground almost every time, lol.

sk83rb0y
02-20-2006, 05:25 PM
^^ That works but to take off a step instead of thinking about popping the board, you can just jump. The board will pop itself naturally.

andrewri

well what to do is you pop harder and move your front foot in a inward motion to the front. it takes alot of time and practice

The ollie came to me kinda strage. I got my board when i was 13. Tried ollieng every summer until i was 17 and never got it. Then my friend came over one day and asked if i had a skateboard and i watched him and was amazed. So he told me what to do and i did it on my first try about 5 inches high. Now i can do a stationery one about 2 feet. All it took me was see someone actually skateboard.

the absolute best tip i heard that helped me out TONS in landing a nice, high ollie in a week was this:

Remeber, your jumping FORWARD!

try jumping forward, even if your just trying to jump stationary and land in the same spot. just this way of thinking gets you in the right stance and youll do everything else right too.

02-23-2006, 05:24 PM
I know what you mean, Ive been skating for only like 2 or 3 weeks, and I got my ollie down. I was getting pissed after practicing for hours and not leaving the ground. I found that the more I looked at videos and online tips, the worse I did.

All that drag your foot, pop this fut, pull in your knees stuff confused the crap out of me, and I couldnt do at at the same time. No idea if this works for others or if im just a retard but I just picture someone olleing in my head, or watch someone, and try to immitate them withought getting too fancy and detailed. Then I began to realize my weak points and with lots of practice I eventually got better. I can ollie like a foot now :)

put your back foot on the tail and your front foot right behind the screws, then pop you back foot down and slide your front foot forward(quik motion)i had trouble with this too, this is the most sufficient way.

Bakerbum211
02-24-2006, 06:13 AM
I can ollie high and the way i do that is sort of a two step motion. Heres how you ollie:
I have my front foot in the middle
First when i pop i jump and slide my front foot uo to the nose.
Then i take my back foot off and i suck my front foot up to my waist and
Next i take my back foot and suck it up to my waist. That will let you get the heigh.
When i ollie, i bend down so that when i suck my feet up, They reach my chest. That will also help because when u land like this, You'll land safely and you wont fall that hard.

JUST PRACTICCEE!! ITS TAKES A WHILLEE!!!!!!

well man. i personally think learning the ollie and kickflip are two of the longest tricks to learn. cuz after u learn them u kinda got a feel for it...there is many things that could be messing up ur ollies. ur shoulders not being lined wit the board, not leaning foward, not jumping with the board, maybe ur timing is off. it just really takes alot of practice and for u 2 learn from ur mistakes

no seriously, just know what you have to do to do an ollie and just practice it. It may not sound like it helps much, but really, the more you practice, the closer you get to doing it. One day it will just "click" in your brain and you'll be able to do one. Just keep practicing it (while moving), and it will just "happen".

My problem is that I always forget to slide my foot up the deck. I slide like half way but I never slide all the way up the deck. I use to be able to slide high up with my World deck but not with my Alien Workshop.

JBorder93

maybe try to do ollie in rocks or grass so u have more control.. also try just getting the feel by doing an ollie in slo mo. first snap youre tailo, right after that slide youre foot up the bord to get what it should feel like. it usually takes a while to get olli4es down.

blackbeard
03-01-2006, 12:15 AM
I just recently got my ollie but I can only ollie around two inches....this is how I do it:

1. first i start rolling at a slow speed and i bend down. My back foot is on the tip of the tail and my front foot is more than halfway up the board.
2. Next i jump. When i have fully extended my legs (so im standing up) I push down on the tip of the tail.
3. While im pushing down, instead of thinking of sliding my foot, I think to bring my front leg up to my chest, but it slides my foot automatically. (its the same thing as sliding your foot, but its easier for me to think of bringing my leg to my chest than sliding my foot because when i try to slide, my foot falls of the board and it spins)
4. Right after I bring my front leg up to my chest, i bring my back leg up. After both legs are brought up, i bring them both down at the same time and land on the board. I then bend my leg to cushion the impact.

sorry if this sounds confusing but this is how i learned and it might make it more clear to someone else.

pepole tell you to practice. its not all about that. before i try i trick i study it for like 2-3weeks and watch videos and what not of pepole doing it. it helps you better when you really get the hand of it. first what i did was took the trucks off and tried it like that. i played out every step. then i did it stationary. it took me about 2 days 2 get like 5 inches off and land em every time in stationary. then i tried moving. i had one of my friends push me gently so i was going to fast. then i first worked on pop. then i worked on leveling out. then i worked on landing. within like 1 weeks i was able to ollie like 8 inch high while moving.watch other skaters ollie. go to your local skatepark. it'll help. and when you ollie. dont think about all that your gonna do. just think that your gonna jump

LISTEN. Pop HARD. If you can't pop hard enough move your front foot to just above the back bolts. Then POP JUMP AND SLIDE all at once. Don't even think. Just do it. And if you pop hard enough, even if you only slide a tiny bit, you should still get air. Do it on grass first, and then concentrate on sliding as much as you can.
