It would be really hard to just pump up to the top of the ramps. You should learn to drop in instead.

Dropping in is something you should learn asap, it'll help you out a lot.
As for pumping, I tend to push upwards when I'm half way going up the ramp, and then push right back down again, bending my knees at the peak.

Think of it like swinging on a swing. You throw your weight (or pump) similar to the way you would to get really high on a swing set.

o0o that helps a lot. its still a little foggy tho. i think i can drop in but like i said the momentum goes away.

You've got to pump with your body using your momentum to maintain speed.

If you can't make it to a ramp a few feet away with a drop in, your bearings are probably bad.

it's fun pumping on halfpipes.. in a park close by there is a 11-12 foot halfpipe with a 13 extension and what i do to pump is get on my board, and get a running start to one side, and bend my knees on the curve and once your board is close to the vert or top of the ramp extend your legs, then bend your knees and extend once you go back down curved part. than do the same thing when you start going back fakie, and then after you go up fakie, i like to just give 1 push and then you can just continue pumping without pushes.

i can make it to another ramp, but i cant go back and forth.

Oh, well I say if you roll back about half-way up the ramp then your bearings are slow anyway.

You just have to do it... it just comes natural. Learn to drop in, buy some decent bearings, and you should be ok. Just mess with it and it will come... I was pumping before i even know there was such a thing...
