None of my friends skate...and so i have no choice but to go alone. Isn't that sort of embarassing? Any of you have done it?

i have, yeah. but theres usually someone there, and pretty much all the skaters in town know eachother cause its not a big town.
if i didnt know anyone, id feel weird, especially if i wasnt very good compared to them (i know it doesnt MATTER, but you have to admit the skill level makes a difference.)
i always go with someone though, or ill go if i know someone i know is there.

Yeah, it's pretty awkward if you suck and you don't know anyone there.

i love going alone! make friends there, or you could just get the whole skatepark to yourself, that always rules

I haven't I always have someone to skate with. But I normally see people by themselves at the skatepark, just start chatting to them and then their kind of with us. If you know what I mean.

talk to some others there about your skill level or age. or grab some headphones and bust out the tunes. its usually more fun to go with friends but i'll go alone if i can't find anyone to go with me, but theres usually a 90% chance that i know someone thats already up there.

Yeah man, it's embarrassing at first. Just go roll around. No one's gonna judge you unless they're insecure so no worries. Anyways make new friends, most skaters will take you in, help you with a trick you can't get, that sort of stuff. It's gonna be tough at first, like you have to leave you're comfort zone, but what's the worst that could happen? Just stay cool, act like you normally act, they think you cool. Just don't forget to have fun. #1 Rule of skateboarding :)
I have kids come up to me all the time and ask for a nollie tip, or a flip trick tip or if they just want to chat. It's always cool. Sometimes i'll see a kid whose struggling can't really get a trick, no one will go over and help him, he'll be too shy to ask anyone. It's sad in a way and i've talked with some guys about this before. But I always try and make an effort to make kids feel comfortable skating no matter they're skill level. That's the way it should be, skatings for everyone not just the punk kids that skating is stereotyped on.

I go alone every once in awhile. Not that often though. But anyway, it's human nature to feel embarassed...but when you're with friends, and you see someone who's alone, do you really care? I don't. So why would the people who see you alone care?
And like others said...you could make new friends if you wanted.

I usually go with friends, and it's easy to get one of them to go with me because they all skate.

I've never been skating alone to be honest, although my friend likes goin to the skatepark alone, he says you get talking to a loada people but I've never really fancied it, also I think skating with friends puts you in a better mood, especially if they are at the same skill level as you..

At Exhibition i'm a local so i go on my own whenever really, even if there's noone i'm particularily good friends with i still know people there who'll stick up for me in a bad situation. At other parks i prefer mates to be there but in the end everyone was the same standard at some point.

I went to Berowra Park this weekend with this kid who won't leave me alone because he saw me skate and now I can't have a session without him. I don't generally like going to parks because everyone seems to get in my way, and you see those insane guys doing stuff like tre to 50-50 shove out (hypothetically) and disasters on the quarter pipe that make me look like crap pop shoving the hip. But when I got there, there was a whole bunch of my friends already there, so it ended up being a freaking good session. But if they weren't there, I would have skated anyway. I don't give a shit what people think.

It's like.... really really easy to make friends at the park. Just go and start a conversation with them.

I almost always go alone. Up until this year, I knew no-one at my skill level (between dropping sub-hammers and learning to push without falling off), I had one friend who skated slightly better than I did switch (which isn't that good). I finally found someone who is fun to skate with, and is at my skill level though. Too bad it's winter and they closed our indoor park (our only park) and we will be getting an outdoor park, maybe late August. But before this, I'd skate on the street, in front of my house, practicing kickflips, ollies, 180's whatever. Sometimes I'd bring out my little rail, or a kicker, even my small manual pad sometimes. That's probably why I'm not that great, the only inspiration comes from me. Mind you, I just started learning tricks like crazy in my basement (carpetted, 5 sq. ft room to skate at the most). I got heelflips in a day, got them great 2nd day. I almost got fs flips yesterday. I can either 90 and land the k-flip or 180 and land 1 foot and deck upside down. Wow did I ever stray off topic. But think about it, can you ollie, kickflip, and boardslide? If so, don't feel embarresed (sp) to skate alone, so what if you're perfecting boardslides on a 2 1/2 deck high rail, someone else is trying nollie bs crooks, everyone is just getting better (true story with those tricks, too). Sorry for writing so much.

Just start conversation. I think any skaters have auto things in common. There was like, 7 year old skating near me, and we kinda had this silent competition of who was better, I was doing a simple manual and he was trying to ollie, and I told him the theory of it about dragging your foot upwards, and small conversation ensued then about tricks and stuff.
