whats the difference between a hot shoe and a cold shoe mount? the camera im planning on buying has a cold shoe.

i think that the cold shoe is just a mount and provides no power(for battery powered accessories) ... a hot shoe can provide power to optional accessories from the camera batt.

uhh im pretty sure all camcorders have cold shoes. and hot shoes suck on camcorders suck. you arent making sure that your light only is on when you film. and its not flashing when you're recording (in all reality it is techincally but too fast for the human eye) cold shoe is the only way to go

alright thanks. i thought thats what it was. because i didnt see anything on the cold shoe except the metal sides. and the hot shoe mount has something on the bottom of it. just wasnt sure. thanks though.

Hot shoes have little metal plates that touch the plates on flashes. In a cold mount, it just holds it, and you have to attach the little wire for a flash to work.
