Advice: Wear pads and crap. I've never mustured up the balls to do one, but if you do, major props.

searching is good
lean forward with the rail, pop high, and go fast so you gap out. oh just get up the balls to really commit to it so that your not busting your balls. my first handrail attempts i would go fast enough to clear the rail so that i wouldn't nut if i bailed. i would just go at it and ollie and set the board down on the rail and jump off to the bottom.
find a nice rail to do it on, something between a 6-8 stair is good. make sure you do lean forward enough, handrails are much steeper and faster than any rail you will find at a skatepark. for your trick, pick you best rail trick, probably a bs board. pick a spot on the rail to gap out to, something around half way down the rail. just try it, be careful and hope for the best.

Well first off I cant boardslide, only 50-50, but the concrete one would probally be slower, unless its waxed. so you would have a less chance of slipping out. and dont skate near a lake if the rail is like right near it because your board might fall in.

my first hand rail was down a 7 set, I gapped and landed about half way, I felt like a million bucks once I landed :)

^yeah first one feels good, actually they all feel pretty good. they just have a cooler feeling than any park rail and stuff.

im in your position. except im in a sling so i cant possibly try one now. just go for it! i suggest that when you do decide to do it you should hit it with some speed. don't hesitate. and most of all LEAN FORWARD! i haven't done handrails, but i have skated rails sloping downward. if you do not lean forward YOU WILL DIE! hope this helps...

what more help do you need? just try the damn rail already. we can't help you with everything, especially if you pick a topic of "help me do a handrail" thats kinda broad. if you have more specific problems then we can help, but with handrails they're the same as any other rail, just alittle bigger and faster, you just gotta try and see what happens.

probably leaned too far forward, or it wasn't waxed enough, or your truck scraped up against the side. Just guesses.

yeah you probably leaned too far foward. or yeah maybe the truck scrape. you shouldn't have to wax it if its metal, but run your board over it to get it sliding smoother thats all you should have to do for it. just lean with the rail, not back, not too far forward.
