Anyone who has ever seen The DC Video knows the unlikely, yet dynamic, friendship of professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and his bodyguard and best friend Christopher “Big Black” Boykin. The one-two punch of Rob and Big Black take their friendship and story to a whole new audience as MTV announced today the greenlight of “Rob and Big Black”. This reality comedy will introduce America to its newest “odd couple” as the twosome live together in Rob’s Hollywood Hills home. The show is expected to debut on the network in Fall 2006.

MTV quickly picked up on Rob’s talent as a skateboarder as well as his charismatic personality and natural comedic nature to help develop the show. His longstanding friendship with Big Black proved the perfect basis for the series. The show will be produced by Jeff Tremaine, executive producer of “Jackass” and “WildBoyz” and formerly of Big Brother fame.

“It’s amazing to think that this all began with The DC Video,” said Rob. “The video just gave a taste of what’s to come. Black and I have had three crazy years together that culminates with this show. Now I don’t have to tell the stories of our adventures, you can tune in and watch them.”

Rob has long been considered a rare breed in professional skateboarding. His charisma and personality are as well known as his abilities on a board. It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who knows Rob that he would eventually end up on television. Rob’s larger-than-life persona is grounded in the fact that he’s passionate, driven and above all, a talented athlete who’s shaped modern street skateboarding. From designing innovative shoes for DC to forming The Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation, a non- profit dedicated to building legal street skateboarding spots around the world, Rob has continued to progress skateboarding and give back to the sport that made him a star.

“We’ve backed Rob for over ten years and have enjoyed every minute of it,” said Ken Block, DC Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer. “We know what a truly original personality he is and are excited to see him find this type of success.”

i say WTF is up with MTV... i was watching it yesterday, and all they had was "super sweet 16", that pagent shit, Real World, 8th and ocean... i mean what the ****, none of this has to do with music, i wish they went back to how it used to be when they didnt play so many stupid ass shows and just played music. The only music they seem to show is On TRL, and that shows sucks ass, they play like half the video, for shitty songs, and focuse the rest of the time on celebreties. MTV has been on a downslope eversince Jackass got canceled

mtv2 plays all the music, and I dont think I'd watch mtv at all if it was jsut music videos all day, I'd probably just go to something called the radio or limewire.

Even worse is VH1, which plays nothing but list shows and 'reality' shows. They used to show Pop-up-Video and MUSIC. MTV is no longer driven by the spirit of Beavis and Butthead, and it is turning to crap.

Anyway, I'd watch every single episode of that show if it comes out! Alright!!

Beavis: Hey butthead, why is letterman on tv?

Butthead: 'cause he's famous.

Beavis: Hey butthead, why is letterman famous?

Butthead: 'cause he's on tv, dumbass.

I loved the DC video. I'll actually watch this show. Why do people get pissed when skateboarders come up and do something besides skateboarding? Jason Lee got big? Do we hate him? The only reason everyone hates Bam is because of all the little kids that run around with his shit. Also hes an asshole haha.

But I just say save the judgement untill the show actually airs. It could be quality TV man.

mtv2 plays all the musicActually, MTV2 stopped being the "replacement MTV that actually plays MUSIC" to a replica of MTV, but with less profitable programming/reruns.
(see: http://www.mtv.com/onair/schedule/mtv2/daily.jhtml)

MTV knows how to make money, and they'll do whatever it takes to do so. Deal with it.

They still play music videos, but you only see them in the middle of the night because they are less profitable than the reality shows and such.

Rob won't be the same as Bam because; A) He's not nearly as dumb. B) He doesn't have signature EVERYTHING for little kiddies to buy. and C) Big Black will own any fanatical fans.

You would take a show if mtv offered to give you one. Well at least I would.

I think MTV Really Need to get Renamed to D&R TV (Date&Reality) thats all you see just about 24/7, And even when they play Videos 98% of them all suck. i guess i think that because i hate rap and thats all they play is rap or R&B.

MTV 2 is like the wacky Version where they play older Jackass, wild boys and anything else, sadly they too stop doing the whole Music thing and becoming another D&R TV Show Slowly

We don't have MTV 2 here any more. Much Music bought them. So now we have Razor, and Much Vibe (Or somthing) Instead of MTV 1 & 2. But now MTV is on another channel. And it still doesn't play music. Hehe.

Anyways, I will be watching this show indeed.

I'll love that show. And on the plus side, everyone will see how much better he is than Bam.

All I have to say is when I hear phrases such as "Skateboarding Superstar", "Extreme Athlete", and "Totally Gnarly Mondo Xtreme", I'm pretty much out. I basicly have a blinding hated for the word extreme. But, I might watch that show. When Drydek quits DC for Etnies, I'm moving to Anartica to make my own desolate skate outpost/scene. Most of you are invited.

I agree that we judge this show when we saw the first episode, but on the other hand I agree with SlimJim_junky: "MTV knows how to make money, and they'll do whatever it takes to do so. Deal with it." That is the truth
