Although my position on this subject is clear..I'll make it more clear. I don't think you should try to get sponsored, ever. Skating for fun is that, fun. Sure, it'd be nice to say 'I'm sponsored', then you've left your reasons for skating in the first place. Either way, NO ONE will just say 'sure, you skate? ok, we'll sponsor you'. The best course of action would be to make a GOOD solid "sponsor me" tape, then give it to some local shops.

Do you mean you wouldn't even get sponsored if someone saw you and offered it to you?

I want to get sponsored so I don't have to worry about buying my own boards, clothes, etc. and so I can get more exposure and inspire other kids.

I would, but becoming pro is a completely diiferent matter. In my eyes, most people just do it for money. If I was ever to go pro for anyhting, I'd do it purely for skating, so that I would have the money to continue the thing I love doing. Skateboarding. Not for money and just keep try to beat everyone in comps. and stuff. I probably wou;dn't change my style of skating either for a company. That's one of the reason's I respect Ronnie Creager so much. eS wanted him to do stair sets and huge things, yet his style isn't that. When he refused, they destroyed his sponsership with them. He didn't change his style for money, or a sponser. He kept it the same because he loves skateboarding and isn't gooing to change it for money. Mabye you should think about that first. ;)

Sean, it's S-P-O-N-S-O-R!!! Sheesh man...

No, I wouldn't. Ask blind...he knows me. I wouldn't, because I plan on skateboarding until I'm physically unable to do, or no longer have enough time to, whichever comes first. Either way, it probably won't be long, so I don't want to fill my final few years of skating, with trying to please some corporate @$$ sitting in a leather chair with built in massager...

However, if I was 12 years old, and was able to kickflip noseslide handrails, yes, I would take it..considering, then I could make a living off it in the future. It's to late for me now...

I almost forgot to mention teams. I consider a Team a whole different matter. In the case of TPH, I am the 'manager' I guess you could say..so yes, I'd look for sponsorships for the team in the future, because I feel like the members have more of a future skating, than I ever will, so why not help them out?

That is the complete truth from Mrock. He's not telling any un-truthfullness about his post. But as you can see from my post, I do respect Ronnie Creager, and would do the same thing he did. I'm not into skateboarding to please some asshole corporate, even if I decide to try/or am asked to be sponsered, I'm in it because I love it. You should really think about it, because you might not even make a living off it, or even turm pro. But if you keep skating no matter what, that is complete dedication to skateboarding.

Flip Boy

i persoannly wouldnt want to be sponsered in any way, maybe a small company but not a big one, all that hasle of trying new stuff every day, have to keep moving about, why, just for skateboarding? no why not stay and perfect your skills at your home town, yeh sure i wouldnt mind being sponsered by a skate shop, that would be kool , free ANY decks not just the same one, and all stuff like that, its worth it i doubt, maybe to get a big name but not in the long run, would you like to go to parks you have never even seen before and have people expecting to you to pull off 360 flips over boxes FIRST time...its not all glamour...

id probably do it
but not for the money...
id do it for clothes and
boards. i am aware that skatin is a fun
thing and im not very keen on people
that make a living or money out of it.

well, i'd try to make a living out of it when i have to, after college, if a sponsor comes my way. otherwise, probably not

being sponsored isn't such a big thing besides free stuff like i got spnsored just a while ago and i get a free deck ever month of when i snap it... also i won't be sponsored for long i'll be going to collegein 3 years and becomea doctor.. and i won't have time to skate :( but at least i'll make a good living if i become a good doctor

Mrock
08-17-2002, 05:25 AM
Going to college to become a doctor sounds like a very good plan, and it's good you're thinking about your future, but, don't you still have something like 3 years, until college?

For one thing yes it was very right of Ronnie Creager to turn down es . A lot of people get hurt while doing handrails and huge gaps and stairs and if Ronnie didnt want to change his reputation as being just a flip trick person then he didn't have to. I personally would want to get sponsored but then again I wouldnt want to. But the thing that I like to keep in mind is that doing drugs and drinking alchohol at an early minor age is not doing the right thing and is stabbing my loved ones in the back, the people who count on me. I always say "I would like to be a better person before being a better skater." A good thing about being sponsored for me is that my mom wouldnt have to buy me clothes or skateboards every time i snapped one. A bad thing is that when you're sponsored and you tell everybody then once everybody knows and once everyone sees you from time to time they'll say "Oh dude Zac I heard you got sponsored" Then I'd say yes. Then they'd say well if youre sponsored you have to be pretty good let me see your best trick. Then you bust out a 360 flip and dont land it. He'll then say well if you're sponsored you're pretty much supposed to land every trick every time. I wouldn't like to make friends for the wrong reasons and I fear that if I tried to get sponsored and I did then kids would think I was cool and would try and have a friendship with me and then I'd know that I had a friend for the wrong reason. It's so much more important to strive for what you want then what other people want you to do. So if I tell everyone I'm going to get sponsored they'll be like"Zac dude get sponsored then you can give me free stuff and shit." I dont really think I would get sponsored cause then everyone would try and play me at skate and if they beat me they'll say Well I beat a sponsored person I'm good enough to be sponsored never mind the fact that they did the same trick over and over and they kept in mind that I couldnt do it so they could win and make a smart ass remark. I agree with blind fully you should all listen to him he's a smart dude. Alright I just thought I should share my feelings lol. See you guys later

Dude, Joy Man you sound like a guy that has to bee sponsored, if u are so good, i am pretty sure u can get, ask, borrow, trade, or whatevr for a camera... and make a sponsor me video.

- If u think ur soo good go to competitions, u will get noticed muich more easier, or.

- pay some one to film u and edit ur part. come on. i dont think asking ppl on the net: "i wanna sponsor, i am good, gimme gimme gimmee" isnt going to help you at all...

Think....

thats cool, lol, mrock, who cares if its SPONSOR, the person probably has some mental block in his head from writing words goodly ;) goodly;)

As long it close to the word SPONSOR, leave the poor kid alone :(, if he spells the word sponsor, spawmnseer, then there's a problem...

Mrock
08-21-2002, 02:12 AM
I never said he had to spell it right, just pointing it out. Besides, it's ironic to say 'I am good, i need to be sponsered'..at least spell it right..you know? Either way, it's the same thing...

Craig Himself
08-21-2002, 10:46 AM
LOL yeah - it'd be more believeable if they could actually spell it lol

M_coley1
08-21-2002, 03:06 PM
Who cares how you spell it. Does it change the meaning of what your trying to say? No

Nobody is perfect.

Mrock
08-21-2002, 06:27 PM
Spelling one word, doesn't make you perfect in the first place, so of course not. If you want, you can go to a skate shop with a video labeled 'sponser me vid'...but I'd be embarrassed to be honest.

M_coley1
08-21-2002, 06:40 PM
Why would you be embarrassed?I could care less if i spelt one word wrong.Ooooooooooooo Know there not gunna sponsor me because i spelt it wrong. Now they probably think im a retard.

Mrock
08-21-2002, 07:45 PM
I'd be embarrassed that I was asking for 'sponsership' when I can't even spell it correctly. You don't HAVE to, call it stupid, or whatever, but I feel like I'd want to make a good impression on them, and spell 3 words right: Sponsor-me video.

Look at it from a shop/company owners standpoint, and not a "I don't care", view. The owner sees someone come in, give them a video that says 'sponser me vidoe'...their first thought, is DEFINENTLY not going to be 'I'm impressed'. Of course, if you skate great, your spelling will not matter, but it may be one small point, which helps you get sponsored. If you really want to be sponsored, wouldn't you want to take every advantage you could get??

BoArDeR420
08-22-2002, 02:21 AM
m_coley- dude dont worry about it, maybe hed just rather speel it right, u dont have to argue about it

Mrock
08-22-2002, 02:41 AM
I'm not angry at him for thinking differently, but I think it's more professional looking, spelling a word right, when presenting a video tape to them...it's like me saying 'I can olli 5 deks'..

M_coley1
08-22-2002, 04:36 PM
Yea true, Im not really arguing , im just sayin that you dont have to spell it right.

^Its like the old sayin, "Don't judge a book by its cover"

Thats the last thing im gunna say about it because we are just flooding the foums now.

Mrock
08-22-2002, 06:14 PM
The old saying never met corporate America, they're the masters at 'judging a book' by its cover, so so so true.

SIM37
08-30-2002, 03:11 PM
yeah, I know a lot of us including me would probably never get sponsored and not really want to. Sure the free stuff is nice and the bragging rights are good, but when you're sponsored then you're skating under their control. But if you really want to, there's this one shiop I know of called Zumiez that is usually pretty easy to get sponsored by the best trick you need to know is a BS tailslide, switch varial flip, and a 360 flips also some vert skills.
