Well, your board is gonna last just fine (as long as it is a quality-board you got?), so no worries there. When you are going to grind, you should think about waxing it, but you won't be doing that until like 3-9 months. Just DON'T use your boards tail to stop with, you're gonna get a razor-tail.
The bearings (the things inside your wheels, that makes them spin so nicely) should be cleaned sometimes, like every 3th week. (http://skateboard.about.com/od/boardmaintenance/ss/HowToRemoveBear.htm)
The wheels and trucks will gonna last you a long time to, if you ain't jumping out of 25 sets, in wich case nothing is gonna survive

boards wear out, you cant avoid it. the only way to prevent it is to not skate.

It wears down the board quickly and gives you less 'pop' for an ollie or whatever i think so anyway!

make sure you tuck it in at night and read it a story or it wont be good to you the next day for skating

NEVER give it water, there allergic to water

if your board does a trick right be sure to reward it

people say punnishment is a good for your board if it wont do a trick, but this isnt true, dont punnish your board if it wont do a trick, it will just hurt it physically and mentally, plus, it just makes you look like a raging Idiot :)

Make sure you take it for long walks (rides)

never land in the middle, Bords dont like it, its very hard on there backs, and you might brake the poor things back

I ride them medium-tight, you should too :) So just tight the trucks until they can turn well and ain't loose at all.
