*This isnt a trick, i dont think... so i hope this is in the correct forum*

Hey guys/gals, i did a forum search and couldnt find the answer i was really looking for, so i was hoping anyone of you guys could help me out.

I recently move to Oceanside,CA and i thought it would be a good idea for me to learn some new hobbies, i.e. skateboarding, surfing.

I bought a Sector-9 skateboard.. isnt a longboard size.. its an inbetween size, if that makes sense.

Anyways, i dont know how to pump and would like to learn how. Any tips would be great. Im regular foot. Thanks in advance.
*not pumping in a half-pipe*

Hey i surf to. And just got into skating.

To pump when your surfing basicaly push down with your back foot and good up and down with your front in kind of a jumping motion. This is used for when your fading off the wave. But if you want more speed you will need to go up and down. If you watch a pro movie do what they do just before they do and air when they get speed. Both of these feel weird but if you do it correct you will realise the difference. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks. Do you pump the same way with a skateboard as well? And pushing down with your back foot, how hard are you pushing down? Does your back foot have to be close to the tail of your board?

This jumping motion, am i doing the jumping motion when i bend my knees also? cause i know you do the jumping motion when youre going from a bended to an unbended knee position.

I watch my surf dvds (fair bits, young guns, etc) and i see them pump, but when im out there in the water, i know i suck and look funny.

noone cares if you look funny. seriously. They think its good that alot of people start surfing. Ive been surfing for ages and people tell me I shred and stuff. (I can do snaps and cutties and 360's and stuff) and i love to see new people surfing. Its awesome. What I dont like to see is people give up after about 30 minutes. It takes a while but it is so fun when you finally get it.

Anyway. to pump. Go on your skateboard. then put your foot in an ollie position and kick the back down (not so far that it hits the ground) and smash the front down. But with a kind of jumping motion. You will look like a luney doing this on a skateboard but that is basicaly all it is on a surf board. You will see people doing it.

this is for surfing my instructions. The easy way is to learn to pump on a skateboard is the game

Skateboard Game (http://www.gmaxskateboarding.com/game.asp)

That is a good game. You will see if you just click go that there are sections in the half pipe. In the game press down here. In real life crouch down in these areas on ramps. quaters and half pipes.

Do it on the way up and the way down. It increases your speed. Hope this helps.

You seem like a nice guy with a long attention-span, so watch this 1-hour movie by Tony Hawk (a pro skater) and one of his buddies.
He tells you how to cruise, push, jump, slide and all this beginner-stuff.

But remember: PRACTICE!
