View Full Version : How to really enjoy a skate session!

Many times I have seen my self having a bad skate session. Lately, this has been happening less. I'm pretty sure I know why. This is my guide to having an insane skate session!

Rule #1: Never freak out.
Trust me, I've done it. Be levelheaded. When you freak out, you get mad. This makes the skating seem a whole lot worse. Also, while going crazy, you may break your board. Unless you are pro/sponsored, this will suck.

Rule #2: You only get one life, live it.
I am always getting freaked out trying to jump a gap, ect. Most people do. Listen to Nike', JUST DO IT!!! You only get one life, so live it. I always tell myself, "what is the worst that could happen!?" That usually works.

Rule #3: Bring water.
Never leave you house without a few bottles of water, especially in the summer. Water saves you from the heat, and from becoming dehydrated. It is my savior.

Rule #4: Bring a friend!
Skating is always better when you have someone to enjoy it with! Leave the headphones at home and talk. Your friends can talk you into and out of things, and can just be fun to be around.

Rule #5: Use a stereo!
Headphones are never as cool as a stereo! You can talk, and listen to music this way. Pop in your favorite song, and skate!

Rule #6: Watch skate videos.
Everytime I watch a skate video, I get pumped. Damn, those dudes are good! It makes me want to be like them, and that makes me try so much harder.

Rule #7: Eat before you skate.
Eating saves you from getting hungry. i don;t know about you, but skating while I'm hungry sucks. I feel like I will pass out.

Rule #8: Get sleep.
I always try to get 7+ hours of sleep. It helps a whole lot. You are more alert, more active, and less afraid. It makes skating better.

Rule #9: Laugh at yourself!
When you eat it bad, just laugh and do it again! Otherwise, you get pissed and skating will suck ass. Do what Rodney does, chuckle after every bail, maybe make it funny by goofing off after it.

Rule #10: Relax!
You skate because it is your passion, not to be cool. Kick back and have a blast! Skating can be a real challenge, so grab it by the horns! You are in control, so make it fun!

If you have more, post them.

ya that was good, alot of it has been said before, you just kinda took all the posts that had these tips and put them together

but nice work though

P.S

Argue with Security - this is fun...nuff said

Dont get full of yourself - your skill may have imporved, but dont get fulla yourself and try somehting boneheaded that will end you up in a cast

Dont Bail if you can help it - Bailing seems to hurt more then sticking it,,,always remember that...

haha I like this quote.

Yeah, I took somethings people had said, but maybe 1 or 2 things. The rest I just thought of. They are mostly habits.

That depends what you're doing. Always bail if you're doing a gap, cus when you stick it, you stick in the gap and fall forward. It hurts a lot more than bailing.

Bailing is an option so you don't hurt yourself, so I honestly don't agree with this quote that much.

ALWAYS LAND- If your gonna bail off something big DON'T if you land you'll be closer to the ground when you do bail.

^ No, bail. That way you can situate yourself to roll instead of just slamming.

I disagree, whats fun for me is to set goals for myself, like learning new tricks, and accomplishing them.

Yeah its really important to learn how to fall, I used to just put my hands out, and stop myself (and that of course hurts like hell), then I learned its all about the roll, you may feel kind of silly doing it, but it basically takes away any impact. So who cares what you look like doing it, it looks bad enough bailing as it is, you may as well not make it hurt.

Another positive about bringing your own drinks and eating before skating is...
NOT HAVING TO BUY THINGS
Anytime I skate unprepared and hungry, I spend like $10 on food/drink. It gets damn expensive when you do it often.

Make sure you have a sufficient amount of elektrolights in your body. Otherwise it'll feel like you'll crash, like if you havn't eaten.

FIGHT!

DO NOT let anyone know you own a skateboard company!

Groms will decend upon you like vultures suffocating you with thier sponsor me tapes and questions about the strangest things... They will also look at you like you HAVE to be the best skater ever to roam the planet and that can be intimidating!

I never tell anyone lol if they figure it out, they figure it out. But for me a rule of skate fun is keep a low profile and the headphones in my ears, even if there is no music playing on them.

Haul butt! - Once you've got your tricks down, grab some alacrity. I guarentee that it improves a skate session, but you have to be able to land your tricks with a fair amount of balance if you want it to be fun.

When I skate I do things that im comfortable with, like if I don't think I can do a stair set I don't even try it. I let things fall into place, like when I think I can do something 9 out of 10 times I usually can do it.

I think I could land more tricks if I didn't bail. It's good to bail if you're trying harder things, but if it's something that couldn't really get you seriously hurt in a typical situation, you should try to stick it. I bailed way too much today.

Put your mind somewhere else - for some this may sound stupid, but when your doing a trick dont really think about it, just go , ok ollie down the 5 and roll up to it and ollie, dont hesistate and dont let it scare you, try to think about something else, and that the set is just a curb...may sound rediculous now, but try it and youll see

Sweep the area first - if you gotta car, bring a broom, rocks suck, enough said

take down "no skating signs" -most of them use the same size bolt as your trucks(well round here they all have that size) find out the size bolt and bring a thing to take them off(if you have a back pack) not only can u play the "o i didnt know you couldnt skate here theres no sign" but it helps out other skaters later to

Bring spare parts - if you got them, and you bring back packs ALWAYS bring backup parts (old trucks, bearings) youll be happy u got them if yours break

Skate creativly Be creative try to look at things differently, turn a mannuy pad into a ledge or figure out something else new.
dontt count stairs read this in an article once, because if you start counting stairs youll end up on the same sets whether your a step ahead or not.

Hehe.

Also, Bring peroxide if you're in a sketchy spot. If you slam, you don't want your gashes to get infected, or else you won't be able to skate for a week. *like me*

ANYHOO

Listen to music - Helps alot.
Laugh at your annoying blader friend when he falls over - because he'll do the same to you.
Never take big-headed people with you - You spend most of the time wanting to punch their faces in.
Dont think about it - Just do it. Its not like youre gonna kill yourself. Unless its like jumping over some big-ass buildings.
Take it to the next level - When you've got one trick down try do it down some stairs or over a gap or somethin. Better than stayin on the same level.
