ok so me and some of my freinds were at the skatepark today (I like just got back) and we were trying to teach one of our freinds how to ollie, he couldnt do it, and another skater rolled by and said "you just dont got it"

is it true that some people have a "natural talent" for skating? or can anyone(assuming your physically and mentally able) become good at skating as long as they practice and stick with it?

what i think it is. would be that the "natural talent" means getting it down faster. and yes i think anybody can do it it may just take longer than others.

how long have you even been trying?

its so dumb to assume you "dont have it" after that short of a time.. that guy was dumb. ollies take forever to get to the point where theyre actually GOOD. and i dont mean height or whatever, i mean where you can cruise down the street and pop over something maybe 3 stairs high like its nothing, without thinking about it.

Yea what spenser said. My ollies took a pretty long time to get really well, but not once did I think to myself that "I just don't have it." I knew it was a matter of practising and perseverence. And i'm really happy that I stuck threw with it, i'm improving and having a great time with it.

Yeah, if you stick with it and persevere you'll get it.

anyone who can walk can learn to ollie
it just takes some people more than others, and not many people learn to ollie after an hour or two

i would think different people learn tricks faster than others, but that doesnt mean that "you dont got it" it simply means that maybe your friend may just need a little more time to practice than others

i agree with the fact some people have it some people don't. If you've ever seen a pro skate then you'll know that for sure. Benny fairfax grew up around me, now we have no street whatsoever and look at him now its pretty amazing. Some people just have it in them. Those that don;t have it in them (as much, everyones got it to a degree) just have to try harder.

No I don't believe in 'natural' talent for skating. But I do believe in a 'natural talent' of practicing.

china skate has a point, but I think in the begining nautral talent shows if you can get down ollieing and stuff down faster, but as you get better and start to get into tres and stuff, nautral talent wont help you one bit, practicing would.

I believe I dont have nautral talent like my friend across the street, but to tell you the truth I dont care. If I keep at skating and practice hard enough, I will be sponcered (not like I am trying to be sponcered but its the truth)
Anybody can get sponcered if they want, nautral talent doesnt help much, anybody that sticks with skating, plays for fun, enjoys skating, and practices skating, and like 7 years time, you WILL be spomcered. Nautral talent or not.

Pro, maybe a little extra nautral talent, or somebody really devoteed to skating

Some people just don't have it. It's something that you can get if you work hard enough though.

I have a friend who sucks at ollies, but he doesn't care at all about falling so he can do one footed kickflips and whatnot. He'll ride off the roof of his house (which is like a ****ing mansion, that dude is rich), cause he doesn't care. He hasn't been skating that long, though.

Natural telent exists, no matter how bad you want to believe it doesnt. The majority of us could never be as good as most pros no matter how much we practiced. Its the same way in everything else, you could give your child a basketball when hes born and make him practice for hours and hours a day, and there's still probably zero percent chance he would ever be as good as Michael Jordan, simply because he was born with it. Take Terry Kennedy for example. In Baker3 i think, it shows video of him hittin a bigass handrail after like a year or so of skating, and i know for a fact that i couldnt do that if i tried for the rest of my life. Most of us have a natural talent too, but it probably isnt skating.Thats just a sad truth of life. Doesnt mean you cant be good though, you're just at a big disadvantage.

Watermelon is quite tasty. Every forum has useless posts/spam. It's just part of the internet.. kind of like pornography.

back on topic! im pretty sure i have some kind of natural talent (just read okay), my friend who i skate with has been skating a long ass time, like, 5 years, i have been skating about 2 years, and i can land quite a few more tricks than him, like, he's just getting tres and i can do them down a gap he only kickflipped, and i can do fs flips and hard flips and he does sketchy 180s, he is, however, better at smiths than me

Probably just because he sucks and doesn't pratice at all. I can cab flip ;)

i ollied in two days, some people have different minds and some arent meant for skating, but i really think its a small amount of people who are just naturally going to be bad

seriously tho, im sure anybody with the right mental and physical condition could do it... set aside im sure theres many mentally challenged people that can do an ollie and even some physically handicaped people... with the right instructions and dedication im sure many people could master the ollie

i taught my best friend to ollie in maybe like 45 minutes... although he can hardly riding ollie now he is kinda goofy but he stuck to it... and he mentally pictured all the steps... it really helps to have someone beside you telling you everything like where to place your feet and what not
