I do believe this is the right forum to post this, if not, please tell me where to post this, thank you. :)

How do you drop into a ramp/halfpipe? I’ve asked several people about this but haven’t gotten a good definition on how to do it. I'm going to my local skatepark tomorow and I would like to try this out. Any help is appreciated. :)

yep this is the right spot for trick help.

alright for the dropping in, this is a simple trick but it can be a little scary at first. don't worry once you get the hang of it then it'll be a breeze to pull up and drop in. really you just set your tail up on the coping and the key to it is to lean with your whole body forward. the common beginner mistake is that they push down with their foot but they don't lean their body forward so all it does is put the board down on the ramp but they're still standing upright so what happens? the board shoots out from under them and they fall back on the ramp. like i said before, lean forward with all of your body. think of it when your standing upright on the board, your whole body is straight up over the board right? well what about rolling down a straight ramp, you lean forward to go down the ramp so the board doesn't slip out from under you, right? well its the same thing with dropping in only the ramp is a little steeper, therefore, you have to lean forward more. with dropping in it takes a lot of commitment, commit fully to it, no half-tryin to drop in. if you try it slowly or only half commit then thats when your going to fall. its really not that difficult of a task, just think positive about it, you are going to land it. so just find the smallest quarter pipe in the park to start on, set up, and slam those front wheels down onto the ramp, but remember - slam them down by leaning your whole body into the board, not by straightening out your front leg. commiting to it fully is a big part of this trick so make sure your going to go for it all or nothing. don't let the ramp scare you too much, the first time i ever dropped in i was scare half to death but i knew i didn't want to slip out onto my back so i just went for it all the way and i landed my first ever drop in attempt. just lean all the way into the ramp and ride it out smooth, you got it in ya so just go for it. good luck bro.

These'll help:

And if none of that helps here you go:

1) Place the tail of your borad on the coping, so that the back wheels are inside the Quarter pipe and the woodern part of the tail is on the platform.

2) Put your back foot on the tail of the board (in riding position)

3) Slam your front foot on the middle of the board and really far lean forward. DO NOT get scared and back down, or you will end up manualing down and busting your ass.

4) Bend your knees as your going down the ramp, then ride away smoothly.

If you don't have much experience on ramps, I would practice just rolling in on bank ramps first. To roll in, just bend your knees slightly and lean forward, like you are going down a hill.

This is a Bank Ramp:

They are staright ramps.

This is a Quarter Pipe:

They are curved ramps.

Good Luck. :-41:

Thanks guys! :) I'm going to try to do what you guys said tomorrow, I’ll post here and tell you if I managed.

How long did it take you to learn to drop in?

It doesn't take that long if you commit, I got after a few tries.

You mean put your foot in the middle of the deck, like before your front bolts? I would not recommend that at all. If you put your foot before the bolts, you are way more likely to do an involuntary manual and bust. I slam my foot down right on the front bolts, covering up the first set of bolts at least.

Well, I just got back from the skate park and after three or four tries I did it. I only could do the 4ft ramps and I couldn't do the half pipe but still, it’s a start. Only problem I had was my back foot would comes off the board (as if to pump) at the bottom of the ramp to keep my balance but after a few tries it stopped happening. I nearly completed some stalls too but I had trouble going back down. (I have a very hard time doing switch.)

good job. don't worry about not being able to do the bigger qp's, as you get better and more comfortable at it then goin onto bigger quarters will be easy.

"Just do it" won't really help IMO. If you don't have any kind of guidance, it will take a long time. You said it took you forever, Koolaid. It only took me a day to learn to drop in, because I had people giving me tips.

-Set your tail on the coping of the ramp.
-Put your front feet over your front bolts.
-Don't hesitate.
-Start to shift your weight foward, and push down with your front
foot, putting 80% your body weight on it. (Exagerate this on the more verticle ramps)
-Bend your knees, and even out the weight distribution.
**Most importantly, you cannot hesitate, or you will fall.**

Once you get it once, you can do it forever.

Move your back foot closer took your bolts, and bend your knees more.

Just pivot/revert back to normal.
