View Full Version : Various Flip Problems

I'll admit it, my flip tricks are weak. Grabs are great, I just recently landed a seatbelt air off a nice little 6-set and I am working on an airwalk over the 12 set at my school (which I barely landed a method over a few months ago). But yes, flips are the porblem.

Kickflip - I've only landed like 10 ever. I get everything technical, it's a guts thing. I've recently started using a more hardflippish stance so my back foot won't come off as it had in the past. I don't think these will be a problem if I keep practicing. Still, tips are helpful.

Varial Flip - My best flip, I land them all the time, but occasionally have problems keeping my balance after landing, I think it's from shifitng a little too far back in mid-air (it's nor the footing though). Any tips on how to keep my weight balanced in the center so as not to fall on my ass?

Hardflips - Considering my varial flips are storng, I startyed trying these a few weeks ago, but have only ever landed one with one foot on the board. The flip is not a problem, and my F/S shove-its are ok, its the two together that kill me. It's like I'm not getting the flip fast enough when I get the shove-it, or I get a good flip but no rotation. How do I combine the two?

Tre flips - I've done these one footed, but the main problem is with scooping, as the rotation doesn't happen all the time. Any trick to the scoop?

That pretty much covers it...tips on all these are appreciated. I can post vids if anyone'd like.

im pretty amazed that you can airwalk a 12 set.... and not know how to kickflip. I call shenanigans. Grab your broom.

Well, I haven't air walked it yet...wait 'til Friday night for the pics (of me dying, I barely landed that method a few months back). But in all seriousness I am quite good at stairs, and as soon as I can I'll get some pics of me doing sets (I can't straight ollie a 12...grabs help me to stay on my board and pull up my knees for the clear). I just suck at flips, I don't see anything wrong with being good at something and bad at another. Sorry if I took that the wrong way (if it was meant to be funny, that broom thing had me chuckling til I realized it could be a challenge). If I was a liar, why would I lie about being good at grabs anyway? It would make more sense to lie about being a good grind-er or manual-er (I'm not half bad at that actually).

Any tips for me though? Or was that post only to accuse me of lying?

First of all, what the **** are you doing trying all those flips when you can't kickflip? It's just a waste of time. Second, I doubt an airwalk is possible over a set. I think you're playing too much THPS.

Don't be an assholes guys...

Kickflips: I myself cannot do these but I know how to...weird isn't it?
If it's a gutsy thing, try em in the grass so when/if you fall, it doesn't hurt as bad. Or wear some knee and ass/hip pads.

For the others, I don't know the specifics but practice can never hurt. :D
good luck.

haha no it just sounded suspicious. Plus its a qoute that some of you might recognize;) If you actually can land a set that big with a grab then the balancing on the varial heels shouldnt be a big problem to you.

True, didn't think of it like that...

Thanks for the tips so far. I know alot of you are pretty suspicious because its pretty wierd to be landing big sets and gaps but not be able to kickflip, an I understand anyone who would be suspicious (I'd probably call anyone else who said this a liar myself). The trick to big sets is just being able to jump them without a board, and doing grabs just keeps you from wimping out. If my board moves from my perfect balance position at all during a big jump, I bail. It's not the same kind of balance, when I land big sets there's no way in hell I can fall very hard, I'm crouching so much to absorb the impact my center of gravity is practically touching the board. That's why the airwalk is going to be so hard, I need to be able to adjust in mid-air (and yes, they are possible, maybe not as clean as THPS but still sick looking).

And I try all these flips because I got varials before regular kickflips, so who knows what I'll find I'm good at next?

I can't believe you haven't been banned for starting so many fights.

My fakie tre flips are more cositant than my kickflips actually.

Airwalking a 12 is pretty difficult.
