its really easy just find a small quarter pipe climb to the toplook down at it if you dont feel safe at it find a smaller one when you find one set your tail on the coping then just put your back foot on the board then hold the front then put your front foot over the screws and press down, lean forward, and keep your balance
if you want to another place to find one go to rodneymullen.net and then click on trick tips then go to droping in

-Set your tail on the coping of the ramp.
-Put your front feet over your front bolts.
-Don't hesitate.
-Start to shift your weight foward, and push down with your front
foot, putting 80% your body weight on it.
-Bend your knees, and even out the weight distribution.
**Most importantly, you cannot hesitate, or you will fall.**

Thanks rat. And I agree, you should never lean back, it will cause you to flip over since your tail will touch the vert and you will fall backwards. (Hard to describe, but I think you all know what I mean) And rat, aren't you the one guy who always skates pools? You and your buds must be the master at this stuff.
woahgirl, just practice. Know what you're going to do before you attempt it, and just do it.
marley I think that's advertising. And no, don't find a smaller ramp unless it's a 5+ ft. Anything under 8ft is possible in one try.
Dropping in is ALL mental. JUST DO IT, and you will master it. All in your head bro.

Ya China, I've been skating vert since about '76, so it's like wiping my, well you get the idea. My son though started concentrating on vert last summer and really impressed me. Here's a pic of Joey (my son) dropping in the Combi Bowl in Costa Mesa. Hard to tell from this shot but that bowl is near 10' deep with a little more than a foot of vert. This is the stance and attack you described so well.

'76. Long time.
Wow that's pretty amazing for a child.. Maybe he inherited from his dad. Or mom.
BUT 10 FT. I still remember it took me an hour to finnally drop in on the 4 foot.
And it seems like hes shifting his weight right now, about to push the front down. (He's bending his knees and most of his body is proportioned foward.

I just tried dropping in for the first in about a week ago, i tried first on this really tiny thing not even really a pipe, then i went on to about a 5 footer and it took me about 20 minutes to build enough confidence to go for it. I finally did and i went all the way down and fell back and it didnt hurt at all, so i tried again and got it and kept going at it and got alot better and built my confidence. later i felt really stupid for waiting so long because it is really easy and doesnt even hurt if you fall. so just go for it, and stay low and bend your knees.

The first time I dropped in, I hesitated. Lets put it this way, it hurts a lot more hesitate (try a black/blue/purple/green/red bruise from my kneecap to the top of my hip) then if you go for it and fall (just tuck and roll). You have to commit to it, something I am horrible for doing. If you don't commit, you are just going to get hurt twice as much.

^^You're basiclly implying that it hurts even if you do commit.

Its going to hurt if you fall either way.

It does hurt if YOU FALL. Dropping in is nothing you should be afraid of though. If you can't do the quarter/half pipe, try doing it on a ramp. Thats how I practiced after my first time. Once you get used to stomping down, you'll be fine. Just practice and commit.

Fear of dropping in is not uncommon but it's all in your head. Once you get it down you'll laugh at your own apprehension. The basic of basics.

Really? Put on some pads and rethink that.

oh but it is.
If you commit, and you fall, its going to hurt. At least a little bit. No matter what there will be pain.
If you hesitate, and you fall, its going to hurt.
So, yes, it is true.

Well, it hurts if you fall either way, but you are almost surely going to fall if you hesitate. If you just go for it, you are less likely to fall. So, that's why it's better not to hesitate.

the point is though, you wont fall if you commit. so it wont hurt.
