I own a Yamaha EG-112..it's a nice lil' guitar. If he's been playing a while, I wouldn't suggest it..but if he's a beginner, then it'll be perfect. The only suggestion I'd have, is to get an Electric tuner with it, my Yamaha de-tuned very easily..

That brings me to the one "real" problem I have with them...slow necks. I recently got an Ibanez..and the neck is lightning fast compared to my Yamaha..so that is a small thing I don't like about them. Besides that, good beginner guitar. If I had the money to put new tuners on it, and strings, and pickups, I'd love it...but why spend the money to do all that, when I could just buy another Ibanez...

I have an Ibanez too...It plays awesome...I definitly like it better than that Strat I had. I don't know about Yamaha, the only person I know to own one is Mike...But I would take his word on it, he's good with guitars. Ibanez has nice sound to it, and it works great. On mine, when you put the whammy bar on, it barely places it out of tune. So if you get one with a whammy bar ask the guy at the front if he could tighten the springs in the back, so when you put it on it won't get out of tune so fast. Just a few tips if you needed any. ;)

Yepperz..Mike and his stupid guitar playing. lol. Anyways, I know my reply is extremely short and useless, but I'm a litttttttle bit inspired to write some music (Although I might just be hungry?)...so I'll be leaving now. Hope everything goes well!

i think yamaha is the worst sounding guitar, the best i think is either a fender or gibson les paul.

From what i've heard, Yamaha's don't make very good quality instruments. Period. Anything and Everything...I just got some Yamaha digital drums...and while I absolutely love them, there are some things about them that I don't like. I've personally never played a Yamaha guitar, but from what I've heard I wouldn't give a strong recomendation for them.

Ibanez has one downfall, the basswood bodys. Gives them a muddy sound. Gibson, its all about gibson.

There is a low low lowdown on the types of guitars that a few bands use so you get an idea of the particular sound.
