Yesterday I came across a company called Souldier Skateboarding. I checked them out and they had only 1 team rider. So I thought I'd try my luck, I know it isn't great but you never know if you don't try. Also note the spelling of Souldier.

the skating was pretty good, but i think you need some gaps and some other stuff that not right in front of your house
McJesus
06-25-2006, 05:20 PM
i dont know, bigger stuff and more tricks, that gap doesnt look hard at all
mcwattersm
06-25-2006, 05:26 PM
Says the guy who just kickflipped a 2 stair. There is little run up and its long.
McJesus
06-25-2006, 05:27 PM
dude ive ollie gap 3 times bigger, just because i give you critism doesnt mean you have to lash out at me, i can bet youve been skating longer than me also
mcwattersm
06-25-2006, 05:39 PM
Your right, I can't lash out at you. But have you ever tried to pop shuv a big gap or even kickflip? Not as easy as it seems. Espically with popers, down things are alot harder than a kickflip. And really, this isn't me at my best, but I can't exactly take my camera 1 hour away to good spots.

Says the guy who just kickflipped a 2 stair. There is little run up and its long.I know it's easy to get offended by criticism, but you're the one who put the video on the internet. Remember that next time. You should expect people to be honest. This is a 'sponsor me' tape, or at least the start of one, right ?
You can't just expect total praise.
I would suggest skating a lot faster. It might make everything much more dangerous, but everything you do fast will look a hundred times better. And please, please tell me you don't plan on putting that song in the final video. That would be really embarrassing : (

Get some johnny thunders or oasis can go with most video parts
mcwattersm
06-25-2006, 05:59 PM
Ha the song was kind of a play on things. Because they spell the name Souldier, like with soul. What other things do you guys think I can improve on? And the footy wasn't really home, some one's home yes, but not my home.

Do they have a website?

Didn't wanna post it because of spamming and such. No footy from the other rider though.
Sorry wasn't feeling it.
Why not? Like what didn't you like about it, and what did you like about it (If there was any?).

OK what i liked was that you are better at flip tricks than me.
What i didnt like was your grinds, you dont pop off.
the gap, you didnt make it all the way on the switch ollie.
The gap was tiny the runway was actually big compared to what im used to, i have a loading dock in my neighborhood equivilent to the height you were going at. It is all crumbled up. The runway is just big enough you can step onto your board and kind of set up.
You have to skate outside of your neighborhood, take a bus to downtown toronto and skate that.
As my brother once said "why the fuk would i wanna be sponsored? So i can get free stickers"
Thats coming from a kid who can do handrails, nine sets, kickflip ooversized fives and tons of other stuff.
Dont worry about being sponsored man.

Alright I am probably going to film park early tommorow morning, I'll post once I have it done.
Chris618
06-25-2006, 08:22 PM
well i think everything has already been said, but i could add that if you want to get sponsored, you should try showing your face in the vid at least a couple of times, you either always have your back to the camera or are to far away, and when your close enough, only your legs are getting filmed (get a fisheye lense, makes it more impressive), and get someone else to film you, its kind off shaky.
And More variety, it felt to suburban driveway skating to me.
I did like the casper flip i believe it was. but once again a fisheye lense would have made it better. the manual was pretty good also but i would do it somewhere more "street" instead of on your box. I dont know just makes it more impressive to me atleast
but hell i cant even kickflip correctly yet so who am i to talk, great job though

06-25-2006, 09:05 PM
Get some footy of drops and stairs.... Also add in random street things maybe a nice ledge than you can tailslide it or something.... yeah then you might have a chance.
crazy_dave
06-25-2006, 09:23 PM
Thought it was pretty good. But to take it to sponsor level, get bigger gaps and stairs, rails and lines in there. That casper flip makes me cream myself everytime i see it...
mcwattersm
06-25-2006, 09:43 PM
Haha thanks. I got a bit more today, better intro. Tommorow I'll film some more and post again. I'll be redoing the 50-50 and the 5-0 adding some lines and skating another rail. Probably redo the swt ollie.
McJesus
06-25-2006, 10:15 PM

mcwattersm
06-25-2006, 10:16 PM
There are "nice" sets but nothing big. There is a six about 15 min skate away, might hit that up this week.

Not bad stuff. Throw bigger tricks down your gap/drop. Maybe hit up the higher side of it too. Set up our box down it or something. Hit up a couple sets and be alittle more techy. I like the intro, the tricks and everything just have to get more extreme stuff. I also dig your shoes.

Yeah, I'm going to change the intro up a little. Tommorow I'm going to try double flip and casper flip down the gap. Then park later. And hopefully the next day a few sets. I'm going to re-do the box skating, and add some flip tricks to it. Hopefully I can skate this rail tommorow too. Get lines in. Oh and my shoes are so thrashed.
Dookie- Actually I rearanged the clips, added two. Changed the intro and the out-tro.

not bad dude, like everyone said, bigger gaps and bigger stuff, more speed and whatever, but thats just our luck, eh? we put up some decent footage, and as soon as the word "sponsor" gets in there everyone's flaming you, good luck on the new stuff man

The only bits id use of your current vid is the kickflip down the grass gap (it was very nice), the casper flip, and the nollie 5-0.

Good tricks, but as everybody else said, go big, or go home.
I say keep the pop-shuv, because it was smooth as butta.
scarecrow476
07-03-2006, 12:47 AM
yea pop shuvits are hard down stuff just try and find a loading dock or atleast a 4, 5 stair. Or if you don't usaully skate street spots just try and get some more footy from the park, and try and picture the gap your filmer didn't get the whole gap so we don't know how big it is. and don't worry about criticism when i posted up my line people said i should learn how to push before i do tricks lol, film really doesn't prove how good a person is you have to actually skate with them so don't worry about it.

07-06-2006, 08:10 AM
Yeah theguy on that site seems good, but it only shows feebles and an f/s board, hes not amazin, I just think if you skated faster, maybe a bit bigger, and some longer grinds you could definetly get it.

07-13-2006, 02:10 AM
do a line, and bust out a kickflip manual shuv it out or some kind of more technical manual combo. You just have to improve fast man if you're serious about this. Forget about being scared or just to lazy to try you have to go all out for this. Plus even if you don't make it atleast this'll make you land a bunch of new stuff and feel good about yourself:)

heres somthing you should try on the grass gap go on the higher part and maybe pull of a frontside or back side flip. or a 360 flip would make it look a lil bit better or a fakie 360
Bakerbum211
07-26-2006, 09:11 PM
Matthew. You have style. Just put more stairs, rails, gaps, and more flip tricks.

Go for the bs flip. They're pretty easy, and they feel cool when you do them. Good luck.

I can do em both flat f/s flip might be more out of reach though. I'm kinda thinking **** this, or but a delay on it for awhile, but I'd love to hear more suggestions.

Much better than the other one, but I don't think it's quite sponsership material yet. Try some gaps that look a little harder. If you do that I think you're golden.

crazy_dave
08-02-2006, 10:44 PM
The one main problem with your video, is that its basicaly park or flatground. There the 2 things that sponsers dont look for. They like to see street, street and more street. I dont know anything about the area you live in, you may not have anything to skate (like me) but just travel around if you have to.
You have good tricks, but doin' em down a grass gap isn't gonna wow a company who's gonna be getting tapes everyday. If you did the same tricks down a 5 set or nice sized ledge, there gonna be far more impressed.
Put it this way, if you had just started a company and wanted to recruit a small number of people to spread the word about your products, would you choose the guy whos bustin' kickflips and back 180's down a good sized set, or someone whos doin them down a grass gap in his drive-way? Also, try to learn some more advanced tricks that aren't that common. Your casper flip and nollie 5-0 are great examples. But a 50-50 on a box isn't gonna catch anyones attention. If your gonna use it, place it in a line. I think you have the potential, but your rushing into it. Just wait till you got a lot of really good stuff and wack that together. You said yourself "I need more stuff". Finally start getting some more other stance tricks too. I hope you dont take this the wrong way.
Btw, loved the flip into bank.

Thanks Dave. This is definatley a work in progress. There is infact a 5 about an hour away from here which I have kickflipped. It an indoor park, so its going to be really hot in the summer. But thanks, I'll keep trying to get footage.

Let me give some advice I realized when watching your video.
First keep the kickflip over the grass gap, the manual manual on the two boxes, and the casper flip.
Next make the trick slo mo, i have no idea how to edit but it looks better if the trick is slo moed rather than your roll off.
Make that shifty at the top of the quarter pipe, same with the kickflip, looks cooler the higher it is.
You cant just use the tricks that you land all the time, Go big or go home means do the stuff that takes you all day, like i want to make a video i got so much stuff but all i want to use is six things so far, an ollie manual to drop off, two noseslide shuvs, a back 180, a shuv, and a recent lipslide. These things took alot out of me, the manual took along time, the back 180 was first landed in the rain, noseslide shuvs took all day, the shuv took a night, and the lip was in 110 degree weather, and to top it all off i have to film everything again except for the shuv.
Throw the 5050 down that hubba, throw the kickflip and pop shuv over the five, really you cant be lazy im really lazy about flip tricks thats why im not gett8ing anywhere, keep on trying harder and harder things.

ok ur switch sucked so u gotta work on that and ur bs is really sketchy...lol
w1skater
09-02-2006, 09:06 PM
Not bad. Skating wise, throw in a switch flip or nollie flip in a line or something. Instead of 50-50ing a box, try to do it on a ledge, even if it is the same height as the box it is gonna look better. As some other people have said, throw some of that stuff down a set. And as convienent as it is, try to stay away from home/driveway footage. It's alright for random clips and non serious videos but for a sponsor you want to avoid it. Filming wise, it was shaky, get a handle and a fisheye. Tell who ever is filming to stop filming your ass. You always want to see the front of the skater if possible. I know its not you filming most of it but still.
Keep it up, keep working at it, and you'll be fine.
scarecrow476
09-03-2006, 12:40 AM
I'm not gonna think about getting sponsored until another year when I can drive because if you think about it. Once you can drive you no longer have to depend on parents and stuff and you can go to a bunch of awesome spots all the time and film a lot more places.
FireFreek
09-03-2006, 01:17 PM
I'm just going to say it like it is.
both of the videos suck. sponsers dont want kickflips off 1 footledges.

Next video your going to send to a sponsor dont compress it i know you shot that with a digicam and it was pixelated just dont compress it as much and it will look alot nicer and will be worth the wait for downloading.
