Stupid question from a newbie

Hi all!

This is probably such a stupid question that I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, but...

Does a skateboard have a front and a back?

I just got a skateboard at the weekend. I got Tony Hawk's "Teach Yourself" DVD, and he's put tape round one end of the board near the screws so he can tell the front from the back at a glance.

Now, my board looks the same but I can't tell what's the front or what's the back or whatever.

I ran a search on it, but what with the words "front" and "back" being mentioned in so many posts, it wasn't much use.

Yes there is a back and front but instead of being called the back and front the front part is called the nose and the back part is called the tail. The nose is usually bigger and the tail isnt as big. Don't be embarassed to ask a question like that here on ramprage there's no such thing as a stupid question.

Sooooo, question number two is:

How can I tell? It looks pretty much the same to me. However, at a glance, the trucks seem closer to one end than the other. I haven't measured it though.

I'm guessing that the end where the trucks are closer to the end of the board is the tail, right?

The nose is the bigger end and the tail is the smaller.

ugg, people. here: look at the image on the bottom. the top of the image is the nose. the tail has more pop (how good it goes up when u push the tail on the ground) ans the nose has more concave (a little dip in the board where u slide ur foot off to do flip tricks) the front and back trucks should be the same distance from the nose and tail, otherwise ur gonna have problems

Well, it really has never made a difference to me whether to use the nose or the tail it's all the same to me but the graphic will tell you which is the nose and the tail.

and if its a board that hasnt got a graphic like a blank the nose is the bigger end.

the nose is the longer and bigger end, the tail is the shorter smaller end.
