hi all. i am trying to figure out what specifics work best on vert with regards to wheels and trucks. i have an 8" wide deck, but need new trucks and wheels.
trucks:
- i am an older school skater, so I plan on getting 'high' instead of 'low' trucks. right?
- all trucks seem to be the same width, except for a couple sets of indy's. 5" is OK, right?
wheels:
- i think i'm going to get 58s. i do skate street too, but anything smaller seems weird. thoughts?
what is a typical vert/ramp setup these days?

with indy, 139s are 8" wide.
a typical setup, im not sure. probably about an 8.25" board, 8" nigh trucks, maybe 56mm or so wheels..

thanks mang...
the trucks thing is confusing. for instance, on this page (http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=W8b1GbV3Hfn1__HeOI01sb_RU-sw0LWptNQ=?CategoryName=skateboard-skateboard-trucks-venture-skateboard-trucks), all the venture trucks are listed at 5 inches. i assume that means the width of the grindy part, not the width from axel to axel. the 8" you are talking about are probably axel to axel.
i may not even get new trucks. mine are fine, i just wasn't sure if they were too big. they must be 8", as they are the exact same width as my deck.

yeah, venture does that. 5 is 7.75", and 5.25 is 8"
it would be so much easier if all trucks just said how wide they are, axle to axle.. instead of all this crap.
this is what i know, as far as listing for 8" trucks. and ive skated them all, except krux, cause i ride 8-8.25 boards.
indy = 139
thunder = 147
krux = 4.0
venture = 5.25
and thats all i know.

great list, thanks.
any feedback on high, med, and low?
i know what that means, but it's still new to me.
i'm assuming i want high or med, rather than low (probably for flippy flatground tricks)

For vert you're going to want 60mm wheels. I use bigger wheels for street skating and it's not any kind of challenge like a lot of people think. Not muc different than 53mm wheels. Check out Shitfire, Conspiracy, and Cowboy Punk for wheels. I would go with high trucks so you can just use a 1/8" riser or something.

yeah, i've been skating street on 60mm that are now about 58mm...no problem whatsoever.
i think i'll get some high ventures, 1/8" risers, and 58mm. sound good?
