This Camera is the one I've been wanting for a long time.
PRODUCT FEATURES
3 Advanced HAD CCDs. A trio of 1/3" Advanced HAD CCDs with 380K total pixels each reduces color noise in the video for a cleaner image, particularly effective when shooting in dim or dark lighting conditions.
Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization. Motion sensors and optical active-prism lenses minimize high-frequency shake and vibration without jeopardizing image quality for better performance and clarity.
12x optical zoom lens. Precise Sony f/1.6-2.4 lens with 7 elements, aspherical glass and 12x optical zoom maintains high image quality and distortion-free detail in long-distance shots. Focal length of 6-72mm (35mm-equivalency of 43-518mm).
Precision 2.5" SwivelScreen LCD and viewfinder. Find a comfortable vantage point while the precision 2.5" 200K-pixel LCD monitor and 180K-pixel viewfinder provide clear, high-resolution viewing in full color during filming.
Digital Still Memory mode with Progressive Scan. Captures digital stills with sharp, clear definition at resolutions up to 640 x 480; Progressive Scan mode captures complete frames to avoid stair-step effects. Saves to Memory Stick (4MB included).
Manual controls. Gain greater creative input with manual controls, including a manual focus ring, manual and 5-program auto exposure, full zoom range, zebra pattern and more. Accessible function controls positioned on the back of the camcorder.
2-mode neutral density filter. Compensates for unique lighting situations, such as studio lights and direct sunlight, for consistent quality and detail.
7 custom presets. Preset functions include set, chroma level, sharpness, WB shift, AE shift, AGC limit and reset.
PCM digital stereo sound. Record CD-quality audio in the 16-bit, 2-channel mode, or choose the 12-bit mode and use 2 of 4 channels, leaving room to add additional music or narration at another time without affecting the original audio.
i.LINK interface and Memory Stick USB reader. Integrated i.LINK (IEEE 1394) DV port allows high-speed bidirectional data transfer, while the included Memory Stick adapter easily transfers digital stills to and from a computer via USB port.

looks like a GL1 to me, sean, thats a bad ass camera, the only problem with it i see, is you dont really need the steady shot, if you use it with any kind of aftermarket lense, it'll look like your just holding the lense in front of the camera and its moving around alot...so you really dont need to use it.
The GL1 has amazingly good ratings, despite the several grand price tag...lol
if you're into the higher end DVcameras, you should check out the VX2000 too, or even the VX1000, if you can find it used, cause its out of production :(

Nice camera despite the fact it costs' more than my car will..
Yeah..if you have the steady shot thing enabled, and use a fisheye..it'll move around a bunch, it'll suck...but I do know most camera's you're able to turn it off, so if you did that, it's fine...

That is the GL-1... for any of you PAL people that Cannon is not advertised coz it cant do the Pal thing.. XM-1 is for PAL format.

jesus christ thats nice lol.
im just after a cheap one for now, prob the sony trv140 thingy

That camera is the sony vx2000. Its the vx2000 because it says sony on it, and it has an lcd which the previous sony 3CCD (the vx1000) didn't have. Its one of the nicest cameras the pros use. I personally prefer the Canon GL2 just because it looks better with a death lens and the colours look better.
Because I'm on a budget, I'm getting the sony trv18. Same camera as Bret has. From what he's told me, it sounds amazing. Should be here in 2 weeks.

how much would 1 of those babies cost sean??probably as much as a flucking house

It all depends. When I saw the vx2k, it was on Circuit City.com, and it was retailed at $3k. But over searching for a better price, I've found many of places. So far, the lowest I've seen it sold for is $1,500. That was on eBay with one of those Paniweb auctions that has a pro set (including lens, filters, tri-pods, etc.)and the VX2000. The majority of them that are sold off of eBay and online retailers range from $2,000 - $2,500. They're really great cameras, which is why they cost so much.
Also, the VX2000 now has a competitor, the GL2. They're both great cameras, it just depends on if you prefer. It's going to be interesting to see what Sony does since Canon released the Gl2.

hahhah, i feel so stupid, that's the vx2000. The GL1 is a cannon and it says sony right there on the side. LOL im retarded.
i didnt know you could buy them from circuit city? i know they sell the GL2 on there? or am i wrong again?

I read you post Bret and was like... GL1.. are you sure?? LOL. Oh well, everyone makes mistakes. If I had the money to choose between any of the 3CCD's with handles, I would probably take the GL2. It just looks really good to me. Thats just my opinion though.

i saved up and bought mine. 900 bux out the door in one day, lets see, i make 5 bux an hour after taxes, so 900 divided by 5, that's 180 hours, divided by 24 makes 7.5 days. I worked for what would be a week and 12 hours straight to get my camera, sheesh.
blind
12-04-2002, 05:34 AM
Yeah, but you didn't work 12 hours a day, lol. So it evened out to about 2-3 weeks.
Craig: We don't have that camera, we WANT that camera, lol.
So far, I've heard alot of people say the death lens is much better on the GL2 than the VX2K.

dont get the xl-1, its pretty much useless as far as skate filming goes. you'd have to shoot everything longlense.
get a vx1k, vx2k, gl1, or gl2
blind
01-13-2003, 02:07 AM
Yeah, the XL-1 isn't good at all for skate filming. It's really bulky compared to the others, and as Bret said, you'd have to film everything long lense.

01-13-2003, 02:40 AM
So... if I want to make like a kickass skating video for the best quality ever i should get a 3ccd camera? or something like that?
blind
01-13-2003, 04:41 AM
Well, put it this way. You can film a skate video with anything you want. For the best image and sound quaility I'd suggest a 3CCD camera. That's what most pro filmers use in skate videos. These cameras can range from $1,000-3,000. For most of you, just get whatever you want. For average quality and everything just get a 1CCD miniDV camera. Get a firewire port and cable, an editing software, and then boom, your ready to go.

Yeah, my first choice would be a vx2000 or a GL1. It depends which one I could get cheapest. I'm working on starting a small business soon so I can save up enough to buy one of these.
Freaky Styley
01-13-2003, 07:26 PM
I'll scope it out on ebay! Thanx Mike! and Congrats on the Mod thingy!
mikejl29
01-13-2003, 07:41 PM
Hey, thanks a lot freaky. The prices of vx2000's on ebay.com are usually around $2,000.

01-13-2003, 09:45 PM
save me a few hundred....The gl1 for around a grand...thanx for the help dude.

01-13-2003, 10:41 PM
I wish I knew what you guys are talking about :p anyway I'll sell a kidney and gte a camera so film its gonna be cool... so yeah off I go to save money.
blind
01-14-2003, 01:20 AM
Mike, you can find GL1s on eBay for a grand, since the GL2s are out, they've gone down alot. I'm deciding if I do get a 3chip, out of the VXs, would I get the 1000 or 2000. The 1000 looks much better with the death lens. The 2000 is not as good with it.
Freaky Styley
01-14-2003, 07:08 PM
I would get the 1000 dude.....cheaper that way.
blind
01-14-2003, 08:53 PM
True, but overall the VX2K has been upgraded. And non of us have a death lens, so I don't think that matters too much.
mikejl29
01-14-2003, 08:56 PM
Speak for yourself, mines on its way.... LOL, just kidding.
I would take any of the 3CCD camera w/ handles personally. I'm not really looking for which one is best with the death lens. I'm after cheapest price with highest quality.
punkrock016
01-15-2003, 04:13 AM
gl1 for me, i've got 800 saved so far.
psycoskater
01-15-2003, 04:16 AM
Yeah a question... what is a death lens and what is it for? and yeah it is a lense :p anyway... I have $0.00 saved so far for my camera
blind
01-15-2003, 04:54 AM
Damn you Bret, just damn you. LOL. Psycoskater, the Death Lens is the nickname given to the Century Optics .3x Fish-eye lens. It widens the view of the picture your viewing when you film, so you could be about a 1ft or less away from the skater and his whole body would still be in view.

And I don't work, and I don't have that camera. My parents get it, and I work off a ton of it. Lots of house work everything. The reason being is I'm not even old enough to get a job. You have a TRV-20? I know about the TRV-18, but not 20, lol. Yeah, Ryan got a Samsung, it's pretty nice. Not a 3chip, but hey, it films, miniDV, what else do ya need? Thrasher, I've heard of the handy Cam. Is it that blue one?

01-22-2003, 03:45 PM
ha, since i'm on a very limited budget, i might get this. i know it's s-vhs, and i'd need a capture card, but it's a good deal. brand new, with fish eye, too.
