the current generation of skating

so what do you guys think of this generation of skating.. ? i personally think it has gotten a lot more popular again.. i live in jersey city, new jersey ( right next to NYC ).. and many people around the area has gotten into skateboaring.. i noticed it.. unless it just never showed in me because i was never intrested in skateboarding before, ti'll this year..

well i like this generation of skating btu it always seems like people are starting to quit skating and bike now which is gay...i remember back like 3-5 years ago was my favorite era or w/e of skating i guess...it was all about having fun and not caring what people think...it was when everyone loved chad muskaa haha cuz tony hawk pro skater just came out..then it went downhill and i ended up quitting somehow..but im back since december skating and ilove it and will never give it up

Skateboarding always has a major rise in popularity and then a slight fall, it always happens every few years...but I do think that there are more people skateboarding today then ever before. Yeah and I think the last time it was really this popular was like 5 years ago, like Popwarperson was saying...I remember I had the Shorty's Muska deck...you know where it was like the sillouhette of him sitting on a ramp?

i also feel that skating has become a more popular, and not generaly in a good way. i feel that because of the media/music cough cough "kick push" cough and things like that a lot of people have started skating because they think it looks cool.

well yeah its kinda true actually.. how i started was.. i did watch the lupe fiasco video.. i do like the song .. and i was watching all there tricks.. so that gave me a little desire for skateboarding.. so then i get into watching skating videos and my friend let me borrow a few of his videos and thats when i got serious about skating.. also watching a few people do crazy ass tricks got me into skating too.

I like watching the 70s and 80s little skate vids on YouTube. It seems like people skated to skate then, instead of to get popular and crap. It seems like most of this generation just skates for the other benefits, not because they liked it.

haha, i love it, no one in my grade really thought that skating was cool, they just did it for fun. (my freinds and i were the only ones who bothered to try it.) you see, the rest of the people my age were still trying to be 'gangsta' (a fad that i passed because i know people who actually live shitty lives, one of my best friends' dad spent my friends colledge fund on coke for example.) so skateboarding didn't appeal to them.

however, we've got all these little kids in the grade below us who're so damn sure that a 5 inch ollie will get them to go pro. that and their 90$ element jackets.

I think in this generation of skating most ppl just do it cuz it is popular. And becuz they want to go pro, also every1 is so materialistic its ridiculous. Every1's gotta have the best stuff, etc. I skate just to skate idc who likes it or not. i do it for me and no1 else.

All the kids who worry to much about fads have quit over here, We have such a tight scene, everyone knows everyone. Somebody flips the big set, its all you hear about. Its cool but we dont have a skate shop anymore, sucky parks and millions of haters.

the same kind of thing happens at a skatepark near me,east kilbride. they talk like theyre someones freind,and 5 mins later ill hear them bitching about that same person.

yeah, there has been more people in my town skating than ever. ok, ok, i'll admit i wear element. a year ago, i praised element like they were gods. but from what i've heard about element here, and now that i start to think about it, element is gay. im not saying that im gonna stop wearing element cause of what other people tell me, but im gonna definetly cut down on buying element. anyway, i only like their clothes, not the decks and other crap. on the subject of skating for fun, that's the only reason i do it. i cant do any tricks at all, but trying to ollie, and just skating with my friends, is just fun. no one at my school skates AT ALL. i try to spread the word, but no one cares. i just say "screw you" and keep skating. heh.

There are kids around here who started skating just this year. I'm like them, because even though I've been skating for about a year and 4 months, I only used to ride around on my board until around March of this year when I started to do tricks other than ollies. But a lot of kids around here are quitting skating and going prep or "gangster."
