I've seen a couple programs around like DVD Copy....
I don't have a DVD player so I'm not much help. Try doing a search and see what you can find. You can rip DVD's though, will take a long time from what I've heard.

Flip, I already told you. Look at www.vcdhelp.com for info on DVD ripping. You can make a DVD into a DivX file or a (X)(S)VCD.
Here is DVD to DivX: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/78732.php

You must have a DVD-ROM drive to read a DVD. Standard CD-ROM drives just don't have the ability to read a DVD. It might be possible to capture the image from a TV using a video capture card. Haven't thought about that one much.

that doesnt mean you can hook it up to your computer and make an .mpeg or a .mov its just not possible. capture card or dvd-rom drive are your options.

Mike is right, if the DVD player isnt on your computer it's not worth bothering to try because you're doing to need a capture card still which will make the quality low... not to bad but it's not worth the hassel.
