If you guys havent done so already check out the new slayer album because its so awsome. Im getting it this saturday. The thing that makes me mad is that slayer is just as good now as they were 20 years ago. Metallica on the other hand just flat out sucks now. They were one of my favorite bands, until i checked out there new stuff from 2006 which is there old material. I dont understand why slayer can still shred like crazy and metallica cant do it anymore. Arent they like the same age? What do you guys think?

Kirk can still shred but in St Anger he didn't. Have you heard 'The New Song' by Metallica? It's good. Slayer are great. I bought Christ Illusion a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I think they are both as good as each other but in different ways.

Metallica. They've changed a lot over the years, but i still stand by em, there new stuff good too. Slayer never really did it for me. Dont compare St. Anger to there other albums and you'll find its another great album. People compare it to them and its a completely different genre compared to their thrash days.

they've changed probably cause of how many times they had to change thier band members, cause of deaths, and the other quitting.

I've never really compared Slayer to Metallica anyway. Although they are both Thrash (whatever that means), Slayer are faster and heavy (eg, Raining Blood), whilst Metallica opt for longer songs, not so heavy with slow melodic parts (One).
It took me a while to get into Slayer because they are different from what I was listening to at the time (mostly Metallica), and I ofund Araya's vocal style quite fast and almost tuneless. That's why I think Metallica are probably more popular.
But they both turn it up to 11 for me :D

Slayer. Metallica was never really thrash. And the only Slayer I like is Raining Blood.

I heard Seasons in the Abyss the other day, and I fell in love with it.

But Testament is the best thrash!

I always thought songs like "Hit the Lights", "Metal Militia" and "Whiplash" could be counted as thrash. After that they sorta went to the slower heavy metal side. Although i know im foolish to argue with you on the music side of things, i just thought id get your opinion on those songs.

Skateshortys, they only had 1 impacting death in the band and changed there bassist twice after they really started properly as a band. Not countin stuff before they recorded with Mr. Mustaine and Ron McGovney.

This is no contest at all Slayer rules over Metallica and they forever will. Slayer has stayed the same, music, lyrics, and look while Metallica was busy selling out.

I kinda feel like this an apple vs banana comparision.
They're both completely diffrent bands who had some similarities back in the eighties. For me it just depends what mood I'm in but allround metallica does it more for me. Even the load-era stuff and a few songs off st.anger.

I'm actually quite surprised to see a slayer vs. metallica thread. On most message boards you find megadeth vs. metallica threads (due to the obvious link)

One way of looking at it. Or Slayer stayed the same whilst Metallica changed.

I'm sick of hearing about how bands are "selling out". It seems as though everytime a band gets more popular and makes more money they are accused being "sell outs". Changing sounds doesn't qualify the band for "selling out" either, bands evolve like all other things in life, skateboarding for example.

I like both bands about the same but if I had to pick I would go with slayer.

Hmn, I've never really liked Slayer, and i'm not a fan of Metallica's new stuff. But, it's all good, people like what they like, and i'm not one to judge others oppinions. =)
